Topic: RE: Hello and Question
Welcome Kristi. Come often and get to know us and let us get to know you.
I had my surgery lap RNY so I don't have any experience with the lap band.
As you know from your friends, this isn't an easy surgery. Read some of the posts on this site and see what kind of complications others are having. I've been fortunate, I've had NO complications. Everything has gone textbook perfect (knock on wood). There are NO guarantees. This is only a decision YOU can make through a lot of prayer and meditation about it.
I've been very open with people in my ward about my surgery. I've received a HUGE amount of support. It definately helps to get a priesthood blessing before you go in. The priesthood is there to help us and we need to use it.
Good luck Kristi. Come back often and ask any question you want. We may not know the answer but we can certainly chat.

Topic: RE: Hello and Question
Had RNY here so I don' know about the Lap Band.
As for the telling people. There was not many people who didn't know. My ward was very supportive. My dh and I had our surgeries 3 weeks apart...I don't reccomend that. But that is besides the point.
We had a ton of support. I didnt' get a blessing before I went to the hospital. After surgery I asked my husband to call someone from the Madison Ward we lived in when we lived there. We were in numerous different wards. I know that anyone would have came. But I asked him to call Bishop Ostrowsky -- he is no longer the bishop but to me he will forever be Bishop O. He married us, worked threw alot of things with us and I love the man and his wife dearly. When James called he said he would be right there. Then he called back few moments later and said "I can't come w/o my wife she would be very upset. We will be there in few hours." So we said that was fine. Then 1 hr later he was there. He called his wife at work and they came right up. They stayed for quite awhile that evening until I couldn't take the noise any longer. They were so excited for both of us. Asked us to make sure we keep in touch and we send them pics and all this other stuff.... Everyone is different and I am sure that some reactions are not positive...but I live my life with this is my choice...not yours.
I know others who have told NO ONE. Not even their own children living under their roof. She just told them she had to go to the hospital for few days for surgery. But didnt' tell them why. Her family has no idea who she has lost 100 lbs. She went to see them las tmonth they live an hour away....they were amazed at how "thin" she was....
Its all about personal choice...
Good luck w/your choice.

Topic: RE: Some questions
1. What is your biggest struggle pertaining to WLS?
A: NOT EATING CRACKERS. For some reason I LOVE THEM!
2. Do you dust or vacuum first and why? Dust? Oh, yeah! That stuff all over my furniture! I vacuum constantly and seldom get to the dusting.
3. What are 5 positive things that people would say about you?
A: I'm not sure what they'll say once I'm dead, but this is what I hope they say:
She was creative
She was hard-working
She loved the gospel
She loved to serve and give
She was obsessive (That's not really praise, just the truth. Sometimes good, sometimes bad.)
4. Of the above 5 things, what is your favorite or the thing that would mean most to you.
A: Everything else is meaningless if they don't know that I love the gospel.
5. What is the thing you would most want people to say about you?
A: That I was righteous, or tried to be. And, that I had taught my children right and been a good example for them.

Hi Kristi! Welcome to the message board!
I had an RNY so I can't answer your question about the band but I can answer your other question.
I told my close friends and Bishop before I went into surgery but it was never a secret so it got out pretty quickly. I was afraid of the wards reaction but EVERYONE has been great about it. Everyone is so excited for me and I have to give my "weight update" several times every Sunday. It's a lot of fun and I haven't had any negative reaction.
Good luck with your decision and talk to us if you have any more question!

Topic: RE: Thursday Morning Questions for the day
1. If you could have any job for one day just to see what it was like
what would it be?
A: Mmmm, I would be a movie star, as long as I get the pampering and full run of their home for a day! Or, I would be Santa. He's fat and happy with it and only works one day a year. Nice deal!
2. If you could go anywhere in the world for vacation where would it be.
A: I would go EVERYWHERE! I would travel around the entire world (but we would spend a little extra time in Switzerland, Austria, and Germany for my hubby).
3. If you could speak to any Prophet who would it be and why.
A: I'm torn between Joseph Smith and Alma the Younger. But I would be happy talking to ANY prophet.
4. If you could choose the century you lived in what would you choose.
A: I'm pretty happy here and now. If I didn't have to stay there I'd choose the 1800's.
5. What scripture comes to your mind when you need it the most...whats your favorite scripture.
A: I have so many that are always rotating through my head. My all time favorite might be Mosiah 2: 17 "And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn wisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God."
I loved reading all your responses. This is great! Thanks for this one, Alfreda!

Hi!
Here goes.
1. Probably an archeologist.
2. Either the British Isles or should I say Western, or maybe Greece or Australia.
3. I would be happy to speak to any prophet and hear him say something to just me. But it seems it would be fun to spend some time with Pres. Hinckley as he has such a sense of humor! When he came to announce that we were getting a temple, he teased us greatly. He kept saying that IF you get a temple. Never announced that we were. He was so cute, the way he said it. Then the next day the church announced that he had announced it in a meeting with the saints etc. I was in that meeting 2 rows in front of him. He NEVER said we were getting one just IF but he said that many times in a teasing way.
4.I sometimes thing I would like to live in the 19th century but I suspect I chose to live now.
5.I always think of John 14. "1. Let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in God, believe also in me! 2, In my Fathers house are many mansions; if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you unto myself, that where I am, there ye may be also." ... I am getting carried away. The whole chapter is important to me. Including verse 27 "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." I used to read this to my mother from the time I learned to read, to reading it at her funeral.
Good questions.

Kaye

Hello, Alfie!
Thanks for your support!
Yes, I do use real butter. I also usually use lemon juice instead of lime but was out. I loved the lime, though!
Where is your family reunion? My Dad's family is from there. We went to a reunion there in July. I love it.

Kaye
