Whew! I've been around the boards a few times trying to find everyone! LOL! ....I've been up in Utah for a couple...getting my daughter from Utah State...Women's Conf for a day, loads of relatives hops, etc. ---My daughter's roommate is in critical condition at U of U Med Center. Prayers for her would be sooooo appreciated. It was a scare for us as well. They suspected Menengitis and so my daughter was quarantined right in the middle of finals! Her doc from AZ was talking to the docs at Logan Hospital and we were pannicked that the sysmptoms would come quickly and possibly taker her quickly. ...Short version. My daughter is healthy and home in AZ. The roommate has a critical illness that is yet to be diagnosed. She does not recognize anyone and is not speaking. Pretty little young thing with so much potential. It breaks our hearts! Anyway, just a quick report on my WLS Spring Fling Prom that I organized. It was fantastic! Huge attendance! Great food. Great dancing! Great fun! Thanks Melody for your clever ideas with decorating! .....I've been hired by a Bariatric program in the valley to do some of their Graduate Seminar organization in Sept. I've done it before. It will be at a resort and will be soooo much fun! ....I'lm hired by another Bariatric surgeon to work for 6 weeks this summer in his office. Life is busy! AND....biggest news.....I'm having p.s. in July! Finally! But......Shhhhhhhh! I'm not wanting anyone to know from my ward or my family. I just don't want to "explain" all the details like "nasty rashes", "aching back"...tucking skin into jeans.....and how much it all costs! ....Negative opinions will be shared by fam and ward folks and I can't handle it! Soooooo...if you know anyone that knows me.....pleeeeeeeez don't share with them! ....I'm on here for the support and hope y'all can lift me up in my worries! I'm not going to read back all of the posts but I did notice that someone asked about protein drinks.... Here's the basics that you want to look for in buying= 23 to 30 grams of protein in 1 scoop (Our body only absorbs 30 grams of protein at one nutritional intake) Calories per scoop should NOT exceed 140. Blends are best for those who may have ulcer issues. Whey is always preferred over Soy as it is a "complete" protein. Don't worry about sugar grams...if the calorie per protein ratio is the 23 p to 120 calories then the sugar grams will be appropriate. Very best proteins (for flavor and quality) are: Champion Pure Whey Stack (all good but the vanilla imvho) Nectar proteins (this is a Whey Isolate and absorbs the quickest)...My DH LOVES the Fuzzy Navel flavor which resembles a Sunny D drink. I can't drink this one cuz it makes me sick....(because it is an Isolate....I do better with blends). Isopure in powder form (the liquid is nasty to most folks) PVL Whey Gourmet (the flavors are the yummiest) And my personal favorite is Syntrax Matrix in Chocolate OR Orange Dreamscicle. If you are doing a no-carb/low-carb eating plan then you would want to buy the Nectar products as they are ZERO carbs! Let me know if you need info on where to order any of the above. I usually GOOGLE the name of the product and put "best prices for________" so that the websites that have it on sale pop up. Protein drinks are recommended by the majority of hospital programs as they are quickly absorbed into our altered systems. Keeping protein high helps build muscle, kick our bodies into ketosis if you are stil trying to burn fat, keeps our nutriients and energy high and is essential for healing. Protein in foods is controversial at best as to what is absorbed into our system. Twins; having the same surgery on the same day will have different absorption. So, to be aggressive with good health, you want to "assume" that you do not absorb much of the protein from foods. ...This is assuming that you have been bypassed (no more tummy to aid in absorption and digestion). O.K. ...I'm going on and on............sorry bout that! Hope y'all have a Happy Mother's Day weekend! I'll bet some of you are looking forward to your Mother's Day Calls from your missionaries! Tooooo exciting! Hugggz to all! Joyce in az

Welcome to this site Linda. The way you posted led me to think that maybe your surgery hasn't occured yet but is upcoming in the near future. If you have any questions or just want to let off steam or want to tell us of any achievements or "WOW" moments, post and talk to us. A WOW moment is when we can finally do something that we haven't been able to do in a long, long time - like fitting in the chair in a theater, tying our shoes, crossing our legs etc. etc. etc. Hope to hear more from you. Dear Sisters, Hi, my name is Linda Woods I live in the middle of Texas, just started this weight loss journey. Also I just turned 61 years old. Married to Drue D. Woods, who will be 64 soon. Surgery was approved just a few days after first visit to Surgeons office. Also dear Husband and I are doing this together, with me going first. I have never had surgery, so don't want to chicken out. We both just hit 100lbs overweight. I went on my first diet, when I was fourteen years old, because my mother thought it was the thing to do. LOL Big mistake! I don't think I was really fat, just thought I was. We all know diets just lead to loosing weight and then gaining more back in the process. I went on a mission to Hawaii when I turned 21 years old (1966-1967). I still remember S. Dillworth Young (he was one of the seven presidents of the Seventies) setting me apart, and telling me that the food would taste sweet to me in the islands. I thought that was strange, as I had never met food I didn't like. The only thing I can remember refusing to eat during that 18 month mission was the delicacie snails that live on the rocks near the shore. And then I didn't refuse to eat them, I just pretended it wasn't something I was hesitant about, which didn't draw attention to me. I gained about 30 or 40 lbs on the mission, which was actually not as much as some of the poor sisters gained. (Just one Luau after another) After completing the mission, I soon went to work for the old Genealogical Society proceeded to go on a crash diet, sometimes eating only 500 or 600 calories a day. Actually got down to something like 128 lbs, which was below my high school graduation weight. Several Doctors have told me that the weight a girl is when she reaches 18 (of course this means if she is not having a real weight issue) is probably the correct weight for her. Well over the years that has proven to be true with me. That weight is 150 lbs, and is what has always seemed ideal for me, even though I never have stayed there long. I managed to stay in the area of that weight until I was 27 years old, met my husband, who already had two children, so I started cooking for a family at that point. By the time I married in Nov of 1973 I was probably 180. My sister who was making the dress, told me she could not let it out anymore, we had to get me married before the whole dress was a waste. Fifteen months later, when my first child was born, I still weighed 180. This was the case in the next two pregnancies (also in the next two years). Something about pregnancy agreed with my metabolism. OB/GYNS never complained about me gaining weight. In fact I was more likely to gain weight between the pregnancies than during them. As the three years of lack of sleep was the most stressful part of having children for me. I have never done the middle of the night thing well. After the children were born, I gained up to 220 or 240. Realized that diets were a huge mistake for me, and for the most part never went on another. I gained up to 252 in just the last couple of years, I assume that menopause, and sitting at desk jobs, as well as a wonderful medication called Acifex for acid reflux, making it possible to eat all the goodies that had made me sick prior to that, as being the principal cause of most recent weight gain, as well as the fact that I am not able to walk much due to foot problems, and have become way to sedentary. Thus the reason we got interested in WLS. Kind of funny to me, that we both reached 100 lbs overweight at approximately the same time. I had always heard that part of the criteria for WLS was being 100 lbs. over weight. Glad to find Sisters in the Gospel to share my Journey with. Linda

Barbara went into surgery at noon today and came out at 4 PM. After 2 hours in recovery she was taken to her room. Her two sons, daughter-in-law, and I were there to greet her in her room. The doctor told us that the surgery went well. Barbara's husband Richard

Your very welcome Melody! I too am having trouble finding things with this new program. It isnt very user friendly. So I just played with each and every tab, link or whatever I could find. I couldnt even find my own profile..lol. I have it bookmarked now. When I first found things my bookmark wasnt working....so I had to start all over once again finding all that I wanted found. Everything is not right out there in front of our eyes as it was before. The new site does look more streamlined....but is not user friendly especially for those who have been using the site for any length of time. Have a wonderful day. We are having a big thunder storm! Heavy rain is not fun especially when you have to drive in it...I must go to the airport to pick up my brother who is coming from CA for a visit. Keeping Smiling Robin

Well I had that famous "Last Super" last night anad really couldn't eat much. This morning it was cream of wheat and then sips of water till about 4 pm and then jello and apple juice. I still have to pack my bag and pay bills before I am ready to go. I did call the ladies that I serve with in the Relief Society and also the Home Teachers have been here and gave me a beautiful blessing. As time has gotten closer I have actually felt calmer. Thanks for the phone call Melody. Sorry I missed it. I just wanted to post one last time, before I leave. I hope I can sleep well tonight. I will have my husband post tomorrow evening. Love to all of you Barbara

Oh Daph...so sorry about your loss. You and all his family gave him such a gift to leave this world with so much love and peace as he slipped away. I only hope that he went with very little pain. You are truly a gift to him and his family. Christy
