Need clothes for a neighbor
Original Post by Loraine May at 10:02 PM EST on 02/14/2006
Byesville, OH - RNY (05/06/2005) - Dean J. Mikami, M.D.
I have a neighbor lady who is just my age and is fast approaching around 600 pounds. She recently lost her funding for home health care and housekeeping and can no longer do these things for herself. She has asked me to help her with grocery shopping and laundry. Last night I went to the laundromat for her and I was almost in tears as I folded her clothes and those of her mentally retarded brother she cares for. They were stained and tattered. I felt so badly for her. I noticed that her clothes are a size 6 x and he wears size 56 jeans and 3 x men's top. IF anyone would happen to have access or have decent clothes in any of these sizes I would be so grateful. I want to help this family out in any way I can. I feel so badly for this young lady that she is going to die an early death and wls could save her life. I just don't know how to approach the subject with her, or even if it is my place to do so. I just love and care about her and would love to see her have a better quality of life. She is completely housebound now at 44 years of age. Feel free to send letters or cards of encouragement to her as well. They are also in need of personal care items, gently used towels and washclothes and undergarments. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. We are planning an extreme makeover for their house ( cleaning etc)and a beautician is donating her time to come and give Patty a full beauty treatment and a hair cut for her brother. I cant wait to see the joy on her face... It is going to make all of this worth it. I will keep you all informed how things are going.
Any ideas how I can help her and her brother, without being a nosy busybody...I want to share my happiness about my weight loss and the wls but I dont want to force my opinion on anyone. It has to be her choice and her willingness to stick with the new way of life forever. All I can do is offer her this help and the rest is up to her.
HELP..
Love and Hugs,
Laura

Topic: Need some prayers
My brother and his family needs some prayers, 2 years ago he had a head on car accident where a guy hit him with a 3/4 ton pick up and he was in a Ford tauras. He was pretty bad, and he has struggled for 2 years to get his leg healed enough to walk, and he has brain injury's that they have not even addressed yet. And because of all the pain and surgeries he has had, he hooked on pain meds. Add the brain injury, he doesn't make the right choices. Last night he too 2 sleeping pills and then went to Wal Mart to get his pain meds refilled, when he got home he fell and hit his shoulder broke that, and cut up his leg, the worse part it was 60 below zero, they will decide what has to be cut off on monday, most of his left hand, and tips of fingers on his right. I know he is not mentally stable and this may be the last straw for him. He had and survived lukemia 5 years ago, but this has taken a toll on him and now this. I do not know what I can do but pray, he is in MN I am out here in ID. So send prayers please!! Thanks Kaye

Topic: RE: ?Question of the week?
I have plenty of very fat embarassing experiences, but one I had about two weeks before my surgery stands out right now.
I was in Oregon for a conference for work. I had to take an early flight home so I could get ready for the surgery (appts and stuff). It was a small plan (hopper style) and held about 20 people. I got on the plane and the seats were squished so close. My hope was that I had a row to myself...didn't happen. A slender guy came and sat next to me. I hung over into the aisle and barely could buckle the belt around me. Now mind you, if I was hanging over into the aisle, that meant I was also hanging over into his seat. I was stuck like that for over an hour and I was mortified for me and for him.
He never said a word, but I know what was going through his mind. I was so glad that I was on my way to taking care of it. That was almost 5 years ago and I've flown on planes since and have room to spare. I can sit in my seat, cross my legs and be comfortable. I can also, respect the space of others. I'm so happy.
I've maintained my weight of 110 for almost two years now.

I was just released from being the primary president after 2.5 years. I was really sad to leave. Since I don't have any kids of my own, they filled that little hole in my life. Since being released however, they have continued to leave notes on my door, and to come give me hugs at church, which is GREAT! I was called to be the 2nd Sunday RS instructor, and if I had been given a choice as to what my next calling would be, that is what I would have chosen. I taught last Sunday, and I really, really enjoy teaching.
I think anything to do with Girl's Camp will always be my favorite calling! I think I have been involved with it in one way or another for most of the past 27 years. I love it!

Congratulations on getting your Temple Blessing re-instated. As far as going to the temple, The temple president's wife spoke in our Stake Conference one time. She made an analagy that I'll never forget. She told us to think how wonderful it is when we have family come home. She said the temple is Heavenly Father's home and each time we go to the temple Heavenly Father is so excited to see us. Remember that as you attend the temple. That your Heavenly Father is rejoycing because you came home to visit him.
Congratulations Kathy,
Melody
