Welcome, Cindy. Nice to have a Canadian Native joining us here. Where in MN do you live? My FIL, and my husband's tribe, are from Grand Portage. Rhia

I live about 1 hour drive from the canadian border in Stephen Mn.My family come from the blackfoot ,We were never put on a res because we lived past the 53rd parallel up in hudson bay area.It was grandfather who came down and settle in East braintree Mb .My Dad and Mom lived in Winnipeg and I live about 3 hour from my mom.We card Metis Cards just a little easier to pass the border. But I don't go to often, after 9-11 I don't want to be stuck there if they close the ports for some unseen reasons .I do have a few friends that work as custom officer's and in Immigration .But til a person never know until every thing is safer .I think i will stay put. P.S> Sorry it toke so to answer back,How are you doing.

Hi all.. just found this board and looks like it's been awhile since there has been a post. Just in case any one see this... I'm here.. I'm western band cherokee/cree mix. Adopted Lakota from Wounded Knee. I love to powwow! We go to as many as we can in as many different states as we can. Haven't had as many this year because there have been so many things going on but have a couple coming up. My youngest daughter and I sing backup for a Northern oldstyle Lakota drum. Her boyfriend is head singer. We are still learning but really enjoy it. I don't dance as much now as I would like.. but when I do it is Northern Traditional. After I have surgery and lose weight I plan on going Northern Buckskin. My daughter dances jingle and fancy shawl. So needless to say.. between doing dance clothes for her and my home sewing/beadwork business I'm kept pretty busy. Guess that's about it for now. Later!

Well, i just found out about this group on the main forum...I have Cherokee, Blackfoot and Apache.....then ya add a little German and Irish to that mixture..and you got me and my brothers! I haven't attended a powwow in ages. We have one at the college here but i didn't have my van with a wheelchair lift so didn't go but plan on going this june. There is also one in Greenville, Ca that i have planned to go to this year. My best friend is Cherokee. So hopefully will go with her. She was born in Okla. and so was my Grandfather. But I have never been on the cherokee reservation. I have lived in CA all my life. Anyway i am hoping to have some of their fry bread if i can work it in my diet by then...depends on when the surgery is scheduled as the first 6 months is nothing but protein. Peggy

I'm Cherokee. I haven't been to a Pow Wow yet but my brother and his 2 girls go several times a year. My brother is very into our Native American heritage. He speaks some Cherokee and is also teaching his 2 little girls. He loves teaching and learning from others about our heritage and I could pass on his email to you if you like. I will stress I saw that you married into the culture and my brother would respect that so you wouldn't have to worry about him flirting ect. ~Donna~
