That is amazing about your insulin pump. I was just diagnosed type 2 diabetes and my surgery is postponed until my sugars level out. So glad to hear about your success and being free of thst pump!!! Congratulations and makese extremely excited!!

for bathurst, back in the day (2 years ago) we were only allowed the shakes.NO veggies. so it is a sigh of relief for the current folks going through this phase

Gotcha! I was not allowed anything outside the 3 shakes and 2 protein bars. It amounted to 800 cals. This is what I am averaging now almost a month post.

I was put on the waiting list in January of 2009. Then in June of 2014 I finally got the call to go for my consultation. So five and half years there. I then visited the clinic a couple more times, to meet the surgeon and sign the papers and for the pre-op nutrition clinic day etc. My full-day clinic was October 22nd.  I had been waiting since then to actually get my call for the surgery.  All my bloodwork was also done way back in October, so  now I have to go back next week and repeat some of it before the surgery.  All together it will be a little over six years from being placed on the waiting list until surgery.

Oh no I didn't mean adding veggies to shakes, I just mean the certain veggies that we are allowed to eat aside from the shakes, and how to make them a little more interesting if just eating them raw gets boring.  I thought some of them would be good steamed and dressed with a bit of lemon juice, such as the asparagus or spinach.  Oh and I'm using Boost rather than Slim Time for the shakes, I think most people who have the surgery in Bathurst just do Boost.

how long were you on the waiting list before you got the call? i was told 3 years ago by my previous doc that i was on a waiting list however after a change in doctor i found out the referral was never sent so my waiting is starting all over again. i'm just curious what kind of wait times to expect.

thanks :)

No, Moncton. I really like the idea of talking to local people who are going through this as well. What's your post diet like? If it's like the Moncton one you will need to stock up on protein powders. The Corn Crib on King street sells PB2. It's a protein powder you can add to cho or vanilla protein drinks to make the taste better and it also ups the protein. Also, grab some Ideal Protein packages (medicine shop/grandbay). They are 80 cals and 20 g of protein. You add the drink to water and they taste good and help you to meet your protein   requirements.
