Drainage tubes

I haven't had surgery yet but I have a question. I am going to have RNY, do you have drainage tubes after the surgery and if so for how long do they stay in?  Also how long is it til you heal from the laparoscopy surgery holes?  How many holes and how big are they??

This varies from surgeon to surgeon. I had RNY and no tubes. Years ago I had my gall bladder out and had a tube.

Generally, it takes about 3 to 4 weeks for the incisions to heal to the point that you can go swimming, but you can usually take a shower within days. I think most have 5 to 7 incisions for RNY. Most are about .5 inch long, I think one was .75 inch long.

I had my surgery (RNY) at Durham Regional and I did not have any drainage tubes.  I understand each patient as well as each surgeon is different.  Good luck with your surgery.

I had RNY on 1/14/2009 in Greenville and only had five laproscopic incisions that were glued closed after surgery without any drains.  Most are about a 1/2" long, but there is one on my left side that is just over 1" long.  They have pretty much already healed, but I was clear to take showers the next day after surgery.  Considering what was involve I was pleasantly suprised to see how small the incisions were.

Hi
I had a G-tube and it was removed the day I went home. Everyone differs from Doctor to Doctor. I had four holes from my RNY and they took a few weeks to heal and they are very small. Good luck to you!

I had RNY on Jan 30.  I had 5 lap holes all glued closed with no prblems at all.  But I do know someone else who had staples so i know it depends on many different factors.  Icame home with a JP tube.  Had to measure and record fluid each day.  Went back last Thursday to have it removed.  My doctor said he doesn't usually send patients home with the drain tube but I was producing too much fluid.  It was a pain to deal with but not impossible.
