Topic: RE: Beginning my Journey
Hi Tammy-just want to wish you the best of luck on your weight loss journey. I had RNY on Sept 12 so I am in the beginning stages of my weight loss. I have had a good experience so far (knock on wood!!). I didn't have a lot of pain after surgery or during recovery. I have lost about 40 lbs so far including the pre-op liquid diet and I feel so much better already. I am able to walk 30 or 40 minutes 5-6 times per week at a pretty quick pace. Eight months ago I could barely walk 1/4 mile without panting and hurting. I am 5'1" and my highest weight was 301 lbs which is a lot for my height. Just wanted to give you a few words of encouragement and hope all goes smoothly & quickly for you! You'll be back on horseback before you know it!

I can't compare the two since I haven't had my WLS yet, but I had gallbladder surgery a few years ago. I knew that I needed the surgery, but was waiting until the beginning of the year (insurance purposes). However, I had such a horrible gallbladder attack one day that I went to the ER & had to have it then. I was BEGGING them to take away the pain! It was so bad! I would have endured three surgeries to get rid of the pain!
The surgery wasn't bad, and the healing process was normal. I think you will be fine! If you handled the WLS, you can do this!!

Ur right, I am looking at the negatives alot more then the positive. I dont want to postpone the procedure mainly because I am in pain alot because of having so many gallbladder attacks. I talked to the doctor that puts u to sleep (I cant spell it, sorry lol) and he said he dont think I will need a trachea so that made me feel a little better. Again thank u for the response. I appreciate it very much!!

Ow! Sometime during the night I bit my tongue. Now I talk like I have a speach problem.
I was going to go for an onsight interview with a company I have been watching for months. I keep getting pressured by hubby to go so I am going. This company has one major issue that I can see. Their people are leaving in droves. Serious turnover. But.. I will be an obedient wife and check it out. Maybe this particular branch of the company won't be so bad. So wish me a positive outcome if it's to be. Golly, I haven't worked full time since 2006. It is a bit scary.
The fair was tons of fun! My favorite part was the races. The little pigs, goats and ducks were so entertaining!!!! I wanted to take them all home with me.
I have to hit the books!! I am getting really nervous that I am not going to finish. I wish I had a study group. Wish I had an exercise partner. I wish a lot lol.

Hi there,
If you look hard enough, you will find plenty of negatives. I had mine out and it wasn't that bad. Now, I am not minimizing your fears. Any surgery is cause for some concern. It takes away ones control for a period of time. If your fears are that serious, maybe you need to postpone the surgery until you can find some peace with the procedure. Talk to your doctor. Talk to other medical professionals and get more understanding. Huugzzzz

Hey everyone! It feels like I havent been on here in forever!! Too bad I gotta get on here with bad news. Sooo, I am having gallbladder surgery on Thursday and I am TERRIFIED! I am honestly more afraid of having this surgery then I was when I had my gastric bypass surgery. I think the reason why I am so scared this time is because when I had gastric bypass surgery they put a trachea in my throat and I am so scared I am gonna wake up and not be able to talk. Another thing is I saw from a post on the main board a while back that having gallbladder surgery is worse then having gastric bypass cause of the pain. I can handle the pain but just the thought of me not being able to talk again for 2 weeks or maybe not ever again scared the hell outta me! The only bright side I can see at this point is when I had my gastric bypass done I was almost 450 pounds and now I am 225. I am so hoping that since I lost so much weight they won't have to put a trachea in.
So, if anyone on here has had gallbladder surgery, please let me know about your experience. I am so scared and I dont wanna not be able to talk or go walking with my kids on halloween. Thanks so much everyone. I greatly appreciate any encouragement or info I get. Love u all bunches!!!!

I'm seeing Dr. Yoo in the Duke Raleigh office. The staff is super nice. My whole process seemed to go really quick too! If I have a question and call them they will call me back with an answer usually the same day or they find someone who has the answer for me. I was annoyed that they had me to waste time at a different office to get the edg scope or whatever its called. When that office gave me difficulities I called Dr. Yoo's office back and asked to be switched to a Duke office. The duke office got me in with no troubles and no consult since they already had my info and stuff on file.
Good luck!
Good luck!

Amy- I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the Durham team. My Dr was fabulous, his nurse is top notch and the staff at the hospital were incredible. I can't say enough about the hospital staff, they were welcoming, kind and everyone made sure that I knew how thankful they were to have me there. I stayed an extra day because I live 3 hours from there and they were wonderful. Good luck in your journey!
