1st week with Alli...

OK I'm a little like Christa and almost considering trying Alli, but just wanted to clarify.  So if you eat between 10 and 15g of fat per meal it should help you lose weight with no treatments effects.  But if you eat a fat free meal there is no point in taking it because there is no fat to block.  What about if you eat a meal that has,  say 5g of fat, would it be beneficial to take it or not?  And if you ate way more than 15 g of fat and didn't take the pill that meal would you still get the nasty TE's?   But I guess if you did that and didn't take your pill, your body would absorb the fat which would defeat the purpose of being on it in the first place.  My other question is that if you are eating between 10 and 15g of fat per meal would you be likely to lose weight without Alli?

It is so easy to remember when to take it. According to the booklet, if you have a meal with any fat, you need to take a pill. I usually don't take one in the morning if I have FF yogurt or oatmeal. But I always take one with lunch and supper. You still need to eat fat,  because we do need a LITTLE fat..but stay within your target range. The starter kit came with a food diary and a few books on how to use the medication. The pill  has a gel coating so it is easy to swallow and I take it with a full glass of water either before, after, or even when I'm eating my meal. I have never had any bad after taste.

Well, while I was still formulating my questions, you posted the answers.

If you followed the diet, you shouldn't be getting TE's all the time. I've been on it 8 days and have never seen oil in my stool or had any "leakage". I think many of the women on the alli board have not got it through their head that this is a lifestyle change. You can't take this magic pill and have it do EVERYTHING for you. Give it a try...you sound like you are on the right track :)

Well heck, I think I'm gonna jump on the Alli bandwagon myself.  Think I'll pick up a kit first thing tomorrow morn.

Tali, I think you'd do very well with using Alli in conjunction with your current "lifestyle change". You seem to know your stuff. What I like about Alli, is that studies showed that people who used Alli with the proper diet and exercise lost more than those who did not take it (yet still followed the diet). The trials included a large sample size and various participants (of age, ethnicity, etc) so the study is very capable of being generalized to the overall population. Hah, I just finished my advanced research course this last spring and here I am applying my "knowledge"!

Yeah, I bet this stuff ain't cheap -- how much is it, and I assume you get a month's supply (which will last longer if you don't take it trice a day)?  Doesn't matter though, cause I'm going to buy it anyway but just curious.

My 60 pill starter kit cost 43.00 from Wal-Mart. I accidentally got the 60 instead of the 120 caps. I haven't went out to eat since I purchased the pills so it all works out and it's definitely worth it to me. Let me know how much you end up spending and let's keep in touch to see how all us Alli women are doing! :)
