Question (might be a little rambly)
Thank you for your response.....
Yes I do think there is a lot to be said for approaching it in steps -- at least for some of us. I do think that SOME need to go to it gang-busters style though -- whatever works for you I guess.
For me though, it seems to be working like it did for you -- although in the reverse sort of --
I am concentrating right now on getting the eating under control first and then concentrating moreso on the exercising. That is mainly because my eating was the MOST out of whack, and I am definitely not a sedentary person. I am always on the go, and my fiance and I rehab houses and things on the weekends and in the evenings. That is definitely some exercise and hard work. I can't sit around the house for sure. It may not be the same as dedicating a period of time to cardio and strength training but it does get me moving!
My eating was VERY out of control though and so I decided to start there. I have done a complete 180 on the eating. I PLAN ahead (the biggest part) now. We actually take time every Sunday and talk about what we are going to eat for the coming week. We go to the store AT LEAST every Sunday afternoon and sometimes go one evening during the week if we need to pick up a few things. Since it's just the two of us, I try to fix some things we can have leftovers of to either take for lunch to work or warm up another night. One of our big things was the lack of will to want to cook the food. It was just easier to go pick something up somewhere than to take the time to cook something. Now I make myself cook (sometimes make HIM cook) and I bring my lunch to work EVERY day so that I don't have to make decisions with very few choices once I am here. It makes a world of difference. Once I feel I have a really good handle on the food part (and I'm getting there) I am going to concentrate more on the planned exercise part. I think this is what is going to work best for me for the long haul. And I think you are right -- it's MUCH less overwhelming this way!
You have done so great! I hope I can do HALF of what you have done!!!!
