hello .... advice ???
I know what you mean about being able to follow something! Tell me what I am allowed to have and I can make great recipes out of the list. Tell me I can eat anything in 1/2 cup sizes and by the end of the day, I'm eating the other 1/2!!!
That's why I love Atkins. It helps me to not have hunger and cravings. After a while sometimes I forget to eat. Most of us here are on some sort of low carb plan due to insulin resistance. I think that by the time you are of a certain age and morbidly obese, your body has reached that point and low fat just doesn't cut it. There are also some of us who do WW and are rocking it. My friend Kim just eats small portions and lost over a hundred pounds.

And then you need to figure out which exercise works for your mind and your body. Some of us lose without exercising and some of us workout like Trojans. I'm to the point now in maintenance that I workout and don't lose a pound. But I'm not that motivated to lose my last ten pounds to start doing more than I already do!

Weight loss is not easy, but it's a journey we have to take for our health, but you'll be surprised how much it teaches you about yourself and what you are made of. Trust me, when you get near your goal weight, you will so not be the same person who started this journey. Not only will you be happy with your new body, you'll be happy with the strength of character you've developed to get you there.
Best wishes,
Mary
Looking at you, my guess is, at least age 35, so good chance you cannot eat a lot of grains any longer..this is the case with me. my body started acting up like that in my mid-thirties. I can lose eating 1-3 VERY small portions of breads/pastas/rice every day.
Atkins is easy, BUT for me, i know that i will eat some amount of grains products, given my beliefs about its benefits, they way my family/friends cooks, etc.
My bottom line is moderation on most foods - we all know the lesser choices: fast foods, high sugar, bad fats (artificial trans fats). So, less of that, more of lean meats/dairy/good fat/ fresh or forzen fruits/veggies, high fiber grains.
I'll pop back when I can - start reading!!!!!!

Yep, what Mary said. I think I may be the one she's talking about eating 4 crackers...well I don't really have a set diet or plan I follow but I eat 5-6 meals per day and I try to always have some sort of protein with all of them. I try to limit sweets and carbs as much as possible and I NEVER eat fast food.
I workout like a fiend just to maintain my weight.
The one thing Mary forgot to mention is that yes you will feel great about yourself and your journey when you've lost your weight but you'll hate the excess skin. The good news is that it can be fixed.
Good luck on your journey!
Kim
Hi Janelle, welcome to the board! I also was denied wls by my insurance company. I was a little apprehensive about it all, so it's all good. But I still wonder from time to time if I really would have gone through with it.
Well...as you have already heard, everyone seems to be different on what works for them. I'm one of those lost causes that hasn't quite found it yet.haha I found it once, lost a 100 pounds, but haven't found it again since. All I can say is start searching different plans and way of eating you could do for the rest of your life and get to it. Just don't ever give up! I have done tons of research and it almost seems like WW and SB are the main ones that people lose on. Although there are quite a few Atkins followers too. Really depends on what you want to do!
Good luck and don't hesitate to let us know how your doing. We've all been there, done that, over and over again!!!

I've lost my weight through nutritional cleansing. This, along with finally eating healthy food and drinking enough purified water, has allowed me to find balance. I'm now at my ideal weight, and have been for two years. I love the whey protein shakes.
Other ideas are - realize you're not out to dump X number of pounds. You're on your way to health and balance. It's life changing, but it's life extending as well. Nothing worthwhile comes with no effort. I would advise you to get rid of all processed foods, and stay as close to live, local food as possible. NO lunch meats (unless they're from Trader Joe's or other health-minded store and have no preservatives, etc), no boxed meals, no high fructose corn syrup (read all salad dressing labels!), no white flour, sugar, etc. Change your eating habits; DON'T go on a "diet". One of my tricks I tell my ladies who are dropping significant amounts of weight (60 to 200 pounds) is to use organic baby spinach and arugula as "chips". Slice open a bag and eat it leaf by leaf.
Good luck!
