Hi everybody...so, I'm moving from the Lap Band abd Lightweight boards over to the Non-Surgical board!    Just wanted to say hi...

I just found out today that I was denied by insurance for a lap-band.  I wasn't devastated, though.  I had finished going through the 3-month diet/nutrition program and I've actually lost 20 pounds since the time that I decided to explore surgical options.

But today I found out that I was declined becuase over the last 5 years, during 2 of them I had too low a BMI.  So unless I want to gain some weight for the next 2 years, my only option is to do this the old-fashioned way!

So I did a half hour on the eliptical machine tonight and I feel great!  I hope to share my journey, questions, concerns, and successes with the rest of you, so this is my official hello!

Hi Kelli :)

I'm also brand new here.   I didn't go through the frustration of being denied for any surgery (I'm sure I'd likely be approved) but I've read enough about the folks who have gone through surgery, and still have to work as hard as I do... so I figured I'd give the non surgical route a try (that, and I've had a total of 8 surgeries over the last 6 years for knees, intestines, etc.... I'M DONE looking at the inside of an OR LOL)

Everyone here has been so amazingly welcoming and supportive.  I think you'll really like it!

Holed up while I do the math.   Studying

Lightweight - 20 pounds lost = No Surgery Needed

Well, that's my opinion anyway!

Welcome to the non op board where we're doing it the old fashioned way, by the Grace of God, and flying without a net.

It can get interesting around here sometimes, Cool

Welcome Kelli,

Well, the great part of doing it "the old fashion way" is that there are no side effects or complications. Just smaller pants, more energy, and self-confidence!

Good luck to you! Sticking with it is 90% of the battle!!

Hey Girl.. welcome to "non-ops"!

Sounds like you're off to a good start.. out of the gate on the run!  When I first came here I was 311 lbs, was starting nutri system and then GAINED like 15 lbs...  mama mia!

By the Grace of God I found this group.. most of whom are tolerant, understanding, non-judgemental - all just pushing in the same direction - and more than willing to offer the wisdom they've EARNED in their own journey............ which in turn has made my own journey that much easier.

For years I couldn't lose a darn thing... the support makes all the difference in the world.. and here you'll get it.  This morning I got on the scale to 211.  This time last year I was giving up on NutriSystem - up around 325 lbs - that's progress no doctor could pull out of me, no drug, no plan.. the difference is the people!

You can do this.... the "old fashioned sweaty way" .. yea....  but it's a way!!

God be with you!

Kelli:

Welcome to the non-op board.  Lots of info, support and fun here.

Several years ago, I wanted to have WLS but had to do the required diet and by the time I finished, I didn't weigh enough for WLS.  My non-op journey wasn't easy but the results were worth it!
Best wishes,
Kim

Hi Kelli,
I lost 40 lbs 5 years ago and have kept off 30 for the 5 years. I racewalk everyday for 2 hours. Despite all of this my weight always gets to 215 and gets stuck. I have type 2 diabeties and am trying to get the lapband. I eat clean and workout like crazy and if ins denies me I will be so upset.

I tightly control my diet and exercise and at this point I am so wiped out from all the extra work.I have to watch EVERYTHING I put in my mouth. No white bread,no pizza unless it is a whole wheat crust. I eat fruit rarely because of the high sugar content but do eat lots of veggies and fish. There is ZERO junk food in my home. We don't even have white flour in my home. There is no soda, chips, pretzels etc. I don't know what more I can do.Lapband is reverable if there are problems and can stop diabeties in its tracks. Right now I am between lapband and here.

Its great that you lost your weight.

Thanks to everybody for their support and encouragment!  I look forward to seeing folks around the board!

Now I have to get to work eradicating all evidence of last night's drinking at my 10-year high school reunion....6 beers @ ~150 cals/beer = 900 calories....so that comes to about 3 hours on the eliptical machine today....

....Ha ha...just joking - that would be CRAZY!      BUT, I will try to mke good food chioces today and negate some of those extra calories!
