Size TEN is a PLUS size???
Hi ,
I just read the most discouraring post! In it , the writer dicsribed a size TEN as a PLUS size--Maybe it's different in other parts of the country--but at stores like --Avenue and Dressbarn woman, Laura Ashley and Lane Bryant--the PLUS sizes start at fourteen--I was feeling pretty good wearing a size ten jeans
--until I read that post--Darn!! Darn !! Darn!!
I really don't know if I can deal with that statement!
I am sitll a PLUS size.
I feel totally discouraged--when, if ever will I be considered thin???
I realize that the stores now stock a double zero--but gosh --I feel like a fatty again !
BUMMER--REAL BUMMER--MAJOR BUMMER!!!
This is very depressing

I dont know about that one, i dont ever remember 10 being a plus size...14 i believe is plus size....so no need to be discouraged...when you look in any store, you wont find 10 in the plus section at least i havent. AND even if it was considered plus 10 is a wonderful size, the average woman is a size 12 so you are less then that. These are just numbers, and i know i use them to determine how i feel but we shouldnt. At this size are you feeling better, are you looking better can you do more?? This is what really counts , not the size of our jeans or the number on our scale. You need to feel good about how much you have already acomplished. You are doing great.

Marian,
OMG I never heard that before!!! and to think I was going to post how excited I was about buying 3 pairs of size 10 jeans today and they FIT...
Well i am still very excited about it because I was NEVER a size 10....I was born wearing bigger then that.
Well LisaMarie is right, it is just a size.....if ya feel good then you look good.
but I can understand hearing/seeing those words PLUS size since we went through all of this work.... ~hugs~
My goal is a size 8 but we will see....
Take care

Hi Debra,
Yes --I think it was seeing that I am still considered by some to be a "PLUS SIZE".
I couldn't imagine that I was still in that "FATTY" group.
We have worked sooooo hard to get to "NORMAL" --and to find that I am not considered "NORMAL by some people was a bit of a bummer!
I truly feel that I have come a long way--No --I am not where my doctor wants me to be yet (I have osteoporosis--and one of the reasons for my surgery was to get rid of weight that was causing my pelvis and knees to fracture --from the weight alone) .
I guess that the old feelings of inadequacy kicked in for a moment there--I felt like I had achieved nothing (just for a minute --mind you) --That's why I am so glad that I have a place to come to to get bolstered up. You guys always have encouraging answers and I always feel better when I express my concerns
Thanks for your kind words
You are always good for everyone here

Hi Marian S.C.
No way is 10 a plus size. Even in Walmarts an 8-10 is a medium. 12-14 is large and 16-18 is extra large. then it is 1X, 2X, etc. A small is a 4-6 and an extra small is a 0-2.
I'm in an 8-10 range now and no way is it a plus size.
I feel great and have felt great since getting into a 12 and less
How someone can say that a 10 is a plus must be loco crazy. We know what's what,
don't we
Don't let anyone lead you to believe otherwise!!!

I read this on the main board.
Someone had asked what people thought the avg. sized American Woman was, and many said a size 10-12. Someone did some researching, and it came up that many thought that any size out of single digits was plus size. A comment was made that in the modeling world, 10-12 was considered the lower end of plus size modelling
As for sizing, you can find 14 in regular size and plus size, and they are not the same. A 14 at Lane Bryant or the Avenue is not the same as a 14 at NY and Co or the Gap, etc. Even in Department stores, a Misses 14 is not the same as a Woman's 14. Woman's sizes are cut a bit wider.
Having said all that, I have tried and keep trying not to let myself get crazy about sizes. Even from store to store and brand to brand, sizes change. We should logically know that if in Brand X, we wear a size 10, but in Brand Y, we wear a 12, that they are the same size, just a different number.
So, lets all PROMISE not to stress over a size number. I know, it is easier said than done, and I still hate the fact that I had to buy a skort in size 14, when I can buy 10s and 12s, and mediums. NO MORE BUMMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! S
Well, I don't think 10 is plus either. All I know is that I used to wear a 22 pants and 26/28 tops. And now I can wear 12 -14 pants and L tops. And I look pretty darn good. Don't let all the numbers bother you. Just look at YOU and how YOU feel. You are beautiful don't forget that.

The answer is yes and no. I work for a major clothing manufacturer a size 10/12 is a plus size when you are talking about models who appear in print ads or runway shows. Most models todays fit into size 2 or 4. When a magazine call over and asks for clothes for a shoot we send over samples which can range from 2's - size 6's.
But for the regular public or I should say most retailers plus sizes begins at size 14.
I try not to let this "size" thing bother me because, women clothing manufacturers never run consistent. I found if I buy higher end brands I can fit into size small and size 6's. But they tend to be loose or boxy. But if I buy cheaper clothes like H & M (which I love) I wear size mediums and size 10's on the bottom. I personally find clothes from H & M fit me better than higher end brands.

Thanks Donna,
I don't feel bad at all about being larger than the runway model or the high fashion model-- and you are absolutely right about sizes varying from high end manufacturers and the less expensive brands (personally --I check out the expensive designers and then go and purchase the less expensive copies or look alikes) I couldn't care less if the less expensive clothing is a size larger--in fact I would rather look good in ten outfits that are a size ten as opposed to one expensive outfit that is marked size six or eight.
I love the "desparate Housewife" actresses--but really , a size double Zero(Eva Langoria--is a "oo").
I just want to be healthy( down to the weight my doctor has set) and look good (I am going to be sixty-one in a month --so I can only look okay for my age)--so--if I don't get to a smaller size --I won't fret--Thanks for your input--that's why I love these boards --I always get great information here!
