Easily Bruised

I'm noticing lots of black & blue marks on my legs and arms and I have no idea how I got them.  I know if you are lacking in a certain vitamin you can easily bruise.  Only I can't remember what vitamin it is. So please let me know what I need to stop this.  It looks like I'm being beaten up!! Thanks everyone and Happy Monday!!

I always have some kind of black and blue on me but I had them before surgery too.  That's why I am not a ballerina...I'm always getting banged up.Can you say clutzy?? LOL Seriously though, it's best always to check with your Doctor. Sometimes people just have fragile skin and capillaries. For most people, the condition isn’t serious, but bruising easily may be a sign that something is wrong with the blood clotting elements, most likely the platelets. Blood tests can determine if such problems exist.  Take Care~~ Diane

It could be from blood thinners too.  Did they give you any during surgery?  I was given heprin and I bruised easily for quite a while after my surgery.  But, it is always good to check with your Dr. first.

Hello, your surgery less than a month ago, most likely this is not a new VITAMIN K  (a fat soluable vitamin after wls that can become deficient!) deficiency, it could be but other factors probably account for it such as any heparin or lovenox (or other low molecular wt heparin) the WLS surgeon may of used (did you get a shot in tummy small needle?) Many Wls do this 1-3 days postop.

Always best to talk w/ your healthcare provider as this couold be a result of many other things such as medications (like antidepressants the SSRIs can cause among many other things), have you had prior to wls etc. We can support you but cant diagnose you so check it out and let us know ok! http://www.merck.com/mmpe/sec01/ch004/ch004m.html

I was bruising easily and was told it was from the Heparin they gave me in the hospital.

Thanks for the responses.  My blood work came back and everything is great.  Someone also told me to make sure I get enough Vitamin C.  I'll have to eat more veggies and fruit.
