Nanette,
I have been reading your posts and feel your pain. I am sorry you are struggling. We have all had times where our weight did not do what we wanted it to do and there and so many reasons why this can occur. I understand that you have a time sensitive issue with your insurance, but WLS takes time. Weight loss takes time. Making these changes to your life takes time and SHOULD take time. Maybe you should investigate other insurance options. I don't know enough about your situation, but there's always another answer. Your frustration is clear but you are at an impasse and you might need to change your way of approaching this in order to make it work. Maybe you can't have the surgery when you thought you could. Maybe there's a good reason for that.
Please don't misunderstand. I hear that you feel powerless and frustrated. I am very sympathetic and have felt that way many times before. I know that when I feel backed into a corner, I need to find another means of doing business because the current way just keeps me backed in the same corner. Are you in therapy? Sometimes it helps to have an ongoing conversation about these things.

My heart goes out to you. Take deep breaths and see if there's another solution that may not be obvious to you now.

Hugs and well wishes,
Amy

Nanette.. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE work with Dr. I and work with Chris. They are very experienced with helping people loose weight before surgery.

I must ask though.. WHY on earth are you taking a diet pill while on the Medifast? That could potentially lead to very serious problems. Chris & Dr. I are very specific about what medications (including OTC) you should be taking with the Medifast because of how Medifast works with your system. I would check with them. This could be part of your problem. May be the combination of what is in the diet pill is reacting to what is in the Medifast. Please be very careful. I would stop the diet pill & call Chris IMMEDIATELY.

Yes, you are right. WL is very frustrating. Each and everyone of us work very very hard. I realize your frustrated, but please don't pop someone elses balloon for how hard they've worked. We are all here to be supportive of each other so when someone has a WOW moment we need to be here for them just as we willl be here for you through the ups and the downs. I do realize your frustration becuse I have been there myself.

Medifast because of the nature of the product if used per your dr's direction, will help you loose weight you need to.  Good luck,

*I posted this on your blog also!* For me I know anger is usually a cover up to my deeper emotions such as fear...just a thought.

Decidingto live/die by the scale is personal..I guess it seems the scale is the ruler now, but looking beyond it maybe health is the goal really and gaining acceptance, detaching will get you there faster than what you are doing now. (For myself the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results..so in this case scale watching isnt doing the trick perhaps non scale watching is the trick?) Dunno. BUT STRESS SURE CAN KEEP WT STUCK!

Sometimes we consume our lives with food, thinking about what we can and can not have, when we can eat or should eat, how much, how often, how it should be cooked, when to buy it, how much, etc that we occupy so much time and do not even realize that we have no time left to feel (the point) in an addiction, it takes over us so we can forget us and what we are scared/fearful of feeling/being. We can only do what we can do (medifast/exercise) in your case. The scale will say what it will. This may be a time to let go, detach, as stress can casue wt gain and if obsessed about the scale, numbers (I understand and appreciate why in your case here) that may just prevent theloss you desire/need. The movie/book the secret talks about putting out positive thoughts to the universe what we give out comes back. If we spend our time obsessed, negative, worrying about not losing that is indeed what we will get. When we let go, accept we have minimal control, beleive what is meant to happen will, in time other than our desired framework it does. And the joy, peace, acceptance, and prosperity we send out in this knowing, believing and such comes back ten fold IMHO!

Perhaps the thing to do is throw out the scale do all u can to live your life happily each day, beleive you will reach the goal needed, and I agree with AMY C if not in therapy that may be the best place for you now and along this challenging journey. Frustrated now, will only lead tomore postop..it is not easier after the date is set or the surgery for most. I know u want to get tehre first, sometimes its all about positive affirmations!

As I have said before in other forums: Most of our lives we have set RIGID, UNREALISTIC WEIGHT LOSS GOALS for ourselves that are BOTH UNATTAINABLE and CHRONICALLY DISAPPOINTING and lead to DEVASTATION & the slippery slope of self-sabotage...Review the UNDERLYING lifestyle change such as exercise, food choices, self-awareness/monitoring, avoidance of emotional eating, adherence to living self responsibly in a CONSISTENT way that is the foundation to our long-term success. For me I keep telling myself daily that***THE GOAL SHOULD NEVER BE A NUMBER***
Maybe use positive thinking such as:
"I AM COMMITTED TO FACE AND RESOLVE THE PROBLEMS OF LIVING" (i.e. no longer be morbidly obese)

"MY SUCCESS DEPENDS UPON MY CHOICES AND MY BEHAVIOR IN THE PRESENT" (i.e. having the surgery, committing to a healthy lifestyle)

"ALTHOUGH I MAY NOT HAVE TOTAL CONTROL OVER WHAT HAPPENS IN MY LIFE, I CAN ALWAYS CONTROL MYSELF AND HOW I RESPOND TO WHAT HAPPENS" (i.e. complications but how I manage them if they happen is up to me).

THIS EMPOWERS YOU NO MATTER WHAT LIFE BRINGS!!!

Ending Scale Obsession
http://www.southbeachdiet.com/public/dailydish/dd_20060515.asp
Do you weigh yourself every day? Or worry about even the slightest change in your weight? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you may be obsessing over the scale too much. This practice can be very discouraging if you're trying to maintain healthy habits.
In fact, your weight may change from day to day for many reasons. Shifts in water weight, constipation, and even the food you just ate can cause daily ups and downs that may register on the scale. These shifts can be misleading and worrisome if you don't understand them. For a more accurate measurement of your weight, you should only weigh yourself once each week and on the same scale every time -- different scales may provide different readings. Or, instead, let the tightness of your belt be your guide. If your clothes fit better and you feel better, then you're getting healthier -- even if the bathroom scale doesn't reflect it.
Ultimately, it's up to you to stop scale obsession. Weight loss takes time and you need to be patient. Remember, if you're following a healthy lifestyle plan like The South Beach Diet?, the extra pounds will come off -- whether you step on the scale a hundred times a day or never at all.
