We all went through those feelings before surgery. After all it is major surgery. But you have to look at the positives. I truly think that if you go in with a great deal of confidence in yourself and your surgeon, you will do awesome and you will feel awesome. One major thing though......I am telling you this out of concern for your health during and after your surgery. You must quit smoking!!!!!!! A very close friend of mine had her open RNY a year ago, and almost died due to her smoking habits. She thought she was out of the woods and I think it was just hours after her surgery her lungs collapsed. That not being enough, she started back smoking shortly after getting out of the hospital. She never really quit before hand just slowed down how many she had a day. Well she has had a year of puking or diarreah after everything she ate. And I think the smoking and not following Dr.s orders has caused this, she has also lost too much weight. Only within the last month or so has she stopped loosing. I totally understand the addiction, I smoked heavily 2-3 packs a day for almost 25 years, I quit 3 1/2 years ago. I will never go back there again. My body and health are way to important to me now. It is real hard to give up your best friend and companion forever, but just think how wonderful you will feel and smell. Same thought goes for the food addiction too. I made my mind up, I will never touch those sweets again ever. This incredible tool the surgeon had made me is the best present I could have ever given myself. I feel such a "load" lifted from my shoulders and legs and butt. Anyway, I wish you the best, and please don't think of this as a nagging session, that was not my intention. Just wanted to give you some kind of awareness of what can happen. Be happy about your decision to get this surgery, don't fret, you are young and will be just fine. Also because you are so young, your skin will probably bounce right back to where it should be. Get yourself some SF FF hard candies, and something to do with your hands, go for a walk, whatever, just something to keep you busy everytime you feel you need a cigarette. Best wishes to you, Shannon Arnold 257/197/130???

Hey there!! You CAN quit smoking! I did, and it has been almost four months now, and I no longer wheeze or cough! Unfortunately, it took seeing my mom laying in the hospital, dying of lung cancer, for me to quit... BUT.. I did it! You can too! My surgery is scheduled for April 7th, which is not too long after yours! I feel better knowing that I am avoiding the added dangers from smoking where it is related to my surgery. I am twice your age, and am soooo looking forward to getting off of insulin along with all of the other meds that I am on!! This is just the beginning of my "new" life! Good luck to you!

Nicole, Hun take a deep breath and try to relax yourself..... Every one has these feeling before surgery and only you can say if you are truely ready for this next BIG step in your life. I know for me I took a day off from work and went to a overlook, sat there and wrote down ALL my thoughts and feelings. Listing everything and why I wanted the surgery. WOW it sure helped and also helped my fears! It was something I had to do for myself to make sure I was really ready!. I wish you all the best hun and PLEASE stop the smoking before surgery because it will make a big difference in your recovery and safety! Keep us posted Debra P
