Ottawa's new meal planner for after bariatric surgery

As I posted earlier I have both the 'old' and 'new' versions of the guide we are given in Ottawa to follow.  To quote from the new guide:

"Stage 2: For the first few days to about 1 week afer your surgery you will be drinking only full fluids and your liquid protein supplement."

"Reminder: Everyone heals at different rates.  Once you feel comfortable with the protein supplement and full fluids, start progressing to Stage 3 (pureed diet) - you do not have to wait the full week."

"Stage 3: Start with very small amounts of foods...Add one new food at a time.  Gradually increase your amounts up to 1/2 cup total (this could take a day up to a week)....Take at least 15-20 minutes to eat a meal. Stop eating when you feel full."

A sample meal they provide for this stage is:

Blended meatballs (lean) with beef broth 1/4 cup
High protein mashed potatoes 2 tbsp
Blended carrots 2 tbsp

The old guide had the following timelines:

Stage 2 (day 3-week 1)
Stage 3 (weeks 2-3)
Stage 4 (weeks 4-6) (this is the soft foods stage)

The main differences I found between the 'old' and the 'new' is that they've removed the timelines.

For me personally I prefer to have more specific guidelines so I intend to follow the 'old' guidelines.  At least that's what I'm saying now before surgery.

The "green sheet" from Dr.Fitzer's clinic had everything laid out in specifics. To me, it was a lifesaver. I didn't have to think too hard about what I was eating and felt confident that the amounts/type of food I was eating had been eaten by many people before me and if I followed this plan I was protecting my pouch and not going to bust it open or something.

So either Ottawa is on the cutting edge or they're about to increase their number of complications. Are you willing to take that gamble!?!   Buyer beware.

Hey Catherine, I'm really glad you are feeling so well so early out.

One of my concerns is with the statement:  'Stop eating when you feel full."  I thought early out we weren't able to 'feel', hunger or fullness.
