Hi all!

I'm Mel. Just wanted to introduce myself. I have been on the OptiFast for  just a few days. Some times I am hungry, and other times don't feel it as much. Anyone have a hard time with the OptiFast? I have to be on it for the next 2.5 weeks. I'm worried that I won't be able to handle it!! It does feel better to be able to post my thoughts and feelings here where people can appreciate what I'm doing! Thanks for listening!!

--- Mel :)

Yes, I can't believe this surgery is becoming a reality (as cliche as that may sound). My surgery is set for July 7th. Having it at Humber in Toronto. Thanks for the encouragement :)

cliches are cliches for a reason, because they are so true... hard to believe taht something you've waited for, for so long, is actually happening.

Lots of people have a difficult time with the optifast, but most get through it wihtout too many problems.

Good luck in your journey, and welcome to OH!!

Welcome Mel!  Many of us struggled with Optifast, but it does get better, hang in there it will all be worth it.

Thanks for all the positive vibes, Paula!! I'm excited for so many "trivial" things after this surgery.... like riding a roller coaster, fitting in an airplane seat (not needing a seatbelt extender)!! I def. can do this Optifast for 3 weeks if it means that I will be one step closer to succeeding with this surgery!

Hi Mel.  Welcome to the site!

Optifast is definitely hard.  I found it more palatable when I mixed it with other stuff; chocolate Optifast with decaf coffee, vanilla with either Nestea berry singles or a bit of lemon extract.  On the bright side, I think that having been on the Optifast helped me quite a bit after surgery when I wasn`t able to eat solid food and as I started to eat again.  I never thought plain Greek yogurt could taste so good!  I really appreciated each new type of healthy food that I was able to integrate into my diet, and I`m sure that having been on Opti for 3 weeks pre-surgically helped that process.

Hang in there and avoid social situations involving food as much as possible.  I had a family gathering at my house during my Opti period, and it was absolutely brutal!  Your surgery date will be here before you know it.  Best of luck!

Hi and thanks Karen!

Yah, I'm from northern Ontario and stayed with a friend in Toronto when I went for my Optifast and PATT appointment.... I was there for 4 days and it was brutal not to eat out with my friends when we were out and about in the city! Although, it did help me development self control that I didn't think I had. I'm interested to find new healthy foods that I enjoy. My aunt said that her tastes for foods even changed after surgery... high carb foods she loved before surgery weren't appetizing after the liquid and puree phase... so that's good! I'm sooo excited for surgery!!

Thanks again!
