Last minute optifast question
Hi everyone!!!
I have a question about caffein.... I have seen many people make a "frappachino" of sorts with there opti, using the vanilla opti and folders hazelnut instant coffee... It sounds so tasty... So I'm wondering is there caffein in the instant hazelnut stuff, if so is there a caffein-free version? is some kind of other substitute??? I'm really confused by this...
The other thing that confuses me is the calorie-free sugar free drinks, they say I can have crystal light but it has 5-10 calories per packet, can I have it because the calorie level is so low it doesn't really count??
Sorry last minute jitters are kicking in

Actually, the crystal light calories do count for Ottawa (or at least they did 9 months ago).
Best bet is to use the DaVinci/Torani/Starbucks SF syrups or true zero-calorie drink crystals - I found the koolaid ones (they are not individual serving sized, but a little sprinkle of them works). Also, the extracts available in the baking aisles are also yummy - mint and orange yum!
Four crystal light packets = 20 calories, so anything above that will keep you out of ketosis which is what you don't want.
Take care,
Steph

I would almost think that it takes more energy to mix and drink that crystal light than the calorie you would consume. IMO :)
About the optifast. If you cant find the Hazelnut instant decaf I would suggest buying the sf syrups. You can get them at Starbucks, Second Cup, Tweed and Hickory (kanata) Home Sense. Hopefully someone else will chime in with some other suggestions. You can also purchase the sf syrups online at the low carb grocer. If you type that into google it will bring you right to the site.
I mix the chocolate with instant decaf coffee yummy! Also the vanilla with the orange Crystal light is good to, but the one I really like the best is the chocolate with raspberry sf syrup
Good luck with your optifast tomorrow oh and btw just make sure you drink LOT of water throughout your optifast phase.

In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.

Hey Cyndylw,
I'm on Optifast right now and actually really enjoy the chocolate just by itself. I do add about 500 mls of water versus the 300 it says to.
For the vanilla, I mix in sugar free syrup. I bought mine from Home Outfitters and Nutrition House (which in the one near me has a mini-low carb grocer selection). I like Vanilla opti with 2tbsp Strawberry syrup and 1 tbs vanilla syrup and 500 mls of water with 4 ice cubes all mixed up. I also am loving my banana ones I make with vanilla opti, 500 mls of water, 4 ice cubes, 2 tbs of vanilla syrup and a dash of banana extract all mixed up.
Hope it goes well!
