Thank you for the welcome.

I did have a sleep test done last year when I was diagnosed with mild to moderate sleep apnea, to your knowledge would they need me to do another test, or would that one suffice?

Thanks for your help!

That study will be fine, just get a copy of the results and your current cpap info (if you use one) and bring it with you to your first appointment after orientation.

Keep in mind that if your family doctor is not supportive and will not refer you online via the bariatric registry, you can always see another doctor - even one at a walk in clinic - to make the referral. Don't be limited by a small minded doc, I was very lucky to have a doc with experience in bariatrics, but many others are not so lucky and misinformation and bad attitudes abound even amongst healthcare professionals.

Good luck!

I can't offer much more than what these wonderful ladies have already recommended..all I will say is that you need to stand up fr what you want....and heck even fudge the facts a little...they don;t need to know you were not a member of Weigh****chers..if you tried the program and it didn't work..just tell them you did it and if you were on it for 6 months tell them a year...I am not condoning that you LIE....but just tweak the facts a bit in your favour. (dpends on what you are comfortable with doing)

I had only tried self diets and participate din a program at a place called ( Weight Loss clinic) prior to asking my physician about WLS...BUT I also had been thinking and researching it for almost an entire year prior to asking him for the referral..showing that you have done a couple of programs...have the pain with walking etc...shows that you have TRIED.

don't let anyone stand in your way...try and find a local support group (they aren't only for people who have had the surgery) and they can offer lots of support/guidance and suggestions...

the wait is not something you should be concerned with...it will take as long as it takes and the main point is that once you are in the system...you are in the system..take the time prior to this to make some positive changes in your life..if you can't walk, try acquabics....eliminate sugars and pop from your diet and start making healthier food choices.

If you could show a doctor that you have lost even 20lbs on your own that is beneficial.

Any self-improvements you can make are beneficial to your ultimate goal (a healthier you)

You mentioned that you don;t feel comfortable about talking to your doctor about WLS?????? I you can't talk to him or her, what make you think another doctor would be easier or any more supportive???

My family physician had this attitude at first (instead of eating 2 pork chops eat only one)..probably was I only ever ate one pork chop...never ate two pork chops ever...but showing him that I was genuinely committed and had done my research swayed hi,m into referring me to a local physician that did the referrals for WLS.

You need to grow a stiff backbone, this is your health and a physician is suppose to be supportive and want the best for your health...if he/she give you attitude or opposition, stand your ground....it's no different than after surgery when you have to stand your ground about the people who will say (you could have lost the weight if you just ate less).

All the best..in your journey don't let the nay-sayers stop you from what you would like to achieve.

I only had my surgery at 45...wish I would have had it in my early 30's!!!!

prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.

life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!.  Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!
