I guess each centre is different but I know at the Hamilton centre at week 5 we are just at pureed food. we don't eat what you are eating until we are 8 weeks out. I also agree with the other posters. processed carbs such as crackers could be playing havoc with your blood sugar levels and trigger cravings hunger. I am still preop but I have been trying to lose some weight before hand and my hunger is definitely more under control when I eat lean protein at every meal and 6 times a day. How has your weightloss been going during this increased hunger?

I posted earlier about toot tasting protein powder as I suffer from same condition as you, protein shake make me gag and vomit.

Read the suggestions of the folks that posted to my question. I think the post is 1 or 2 before yours...

The Low Carb Grocery has syntax Nectar protein mixes, and there are flavours like lemonade, strawberry kiwi etc.  You mix them with water, and all the reviews I have read are really positive.  People who don't like the thicker shakes etc, seem to find these really good.

As an added bonus, you can shop for them online, and they are delivered within 2 days.  You could always give them a try.

Agree with the others, protein first *always*.

lean chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese and cheese. Your body will not sustain itself without min 60 grams of protein. I get about 100 each day. The carbs will just make you hungrier, esp if you are not getting your protein in.

I also second Syntrax Nectar. Cappuchino, Iced Tea, Vanilla are my faves. Tons of ways of getting your protein in.

I definitely felt hunger early out - like 3 weeks out. I took care of my hunger by eating dense protein like meat and cheese. Tried to stay away from carbs and still do. :) Congrats on your progress!

Hi Melissa,

Just chiming in with my 2 cents, which is pretty much the same 2 cents others gave. lol

While I can't speak for the hunger you're feeling (as I never had it), I can't impress enough upon you to weigh, measure and eat only what is on your plan. Dense protein (which should always be eaten first) will fill you up and should be your main staple at this point. In my opnion, you are eating way too many carbs - toast, crackers, wrap, potato, crackers again).

A few tips, if you're interested:

Breakfast - skip the toast, eat hard cheese instead of cheeze whiz and wrap the cheese in a piece of deli meat
Snack - skip the crackers, use deli meat again, like a "roll up"
Lunch - no real harm in the 1/2 whole wheat wrap, as long as you can get the turkey and cheese into you
Dinner - beef stew is a great dinner, but eat the beef first (and more than 1 cube), then the carrots, last of all a tiny bit of potato

Some other good protein foods are eggs, tuna, yogurt... maybe vary what you're eating to keep it interesting.

Is it a lot of food? Not sure - depends on your clinic's plan for you. Are they the right foods? No, but you're working on it.

Best wishes, I know it's hard to figure it all out at first.

K.

Hi there. I was having the same issue early out. I still sometimes feel and know I eat too much but I'm way out now! lol Anyway, when I was having the issue you are having I was told that I was eating too many carbs and slider foods. Basically although I was sticking to the water rules, my pouch wasn't staying full so my hunger would come rearing it's ugly head way too soon. They suggested dense protein (just like the other poster suggested). Try eating 3 ounces of pork, chicken, beef etc. without sauce or overly cooked to mush. Trust me, if you adhere to not drinking for 1/2 hour to 45 min after this, you won't be hungry unless it's head hunger and that's a whole other issue in itself! Good luck!!

Hey Melissa,

I'm like you that the protein shakes I've tried don't exactly flow with my taste buds and I actually have to drink them while pinching my nose closed. One thing I did find to help get in my protein was making sugar free, calorie free protein hot chocolate. I adapted this recipe

Use 3/4 cup of skim milk and microwave it till it's nice and hot. In a shaker bottle, mix a bit of protein powder (I use vanilla to give it some nice flavour), 1/4 cup of cold skim milk, a tbsp. of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 3 packets of equal or equivalent of your favourite sweetener. I tried mixing them all together into the hot milk but I found that the protein powder and cocoa didn't fully dissolve, so I mix the cold milk mixture into the hot milk mixture and it's nice and creamy and smooth. Best of all, the cocoa smell is so strong that it covers the smell of the protein which makes me sick. In my hot chocolate I only use a half scoop of protein so I can't smell it as much, but the facts for mine are 0 sugar (except for what's in the milk, but we are allowed milk anyways) 19 grams of protein (10 from powder, 8 from milk, and 1 from cocoa). Just a suggestion as this helped me up my protein until I could get it all in from my food. Good luck!

Okay please keep in mind that I have not yet had surgery so I am certainly not an expert on post-op food but when I look at your list of foods they are all at the top of my list of foods that I know I could eat and eat and eat. Crackers, toast, cheese whiz, sliced cheese...I could eat those non-stop until I ran out of them. I don't know if those are trigger foods for you but they are at the top of my no-no list. It makes a lot of sense to me what others have said to ditch carbs like crackers and toast and concentrate on protein. Really it is not a lot of food that you have eaten but as others have pointed out not protein rich foods that are going to fill that tiny pouch and keep you from feeling so hungry.
