Not too sure what to do??

I haven't been on the board for awhile, but I have always come to it when I feel down or need some advice or answers.

I had my RNY surgery in Jan 2008. I was 276 when I had it and got down to 149. I then became pregnant and had a wonderful baby boy in Dec 2009. I gained weight while I was pregnant and am now 194. I can't stand myself and feel like such a failure.I had post partum depression after my son was born also. I am on antidepressants for it still.  I can't seem to lose this weight no matter what I do. I am going to see my doctor in Ontario in the next couple of months.

I feel like I need a revision done. It doesn't even like the "tool" is working anymore, since I had my baby. I loved the tool and it worked so well with me and I was so happy.. I got a taste of the skinnier life and loved it. I now miss it.

I am also really anemic, but I work on that everyday with the vitamins.

Do you think, I could get a revision or am I just being silly.  My doctor doesn't do revisions and so I will have to go to a different doctor. I don't know what to do..

First of all, stop beating yourself over the weight.  You had a baby and just like most mothers you gained weight during your pregnancy.  You are very normal and this is typical of just about anyone.

And just like anyone else, after you gain weight, it is hard to lose weight.  This is normal too.

You are on medication for depression - many pills have side effects of weight gain. Does the one you are on have that?

Have you tried a program such as fitday or daily plate to track your calories, fat, protein and see what you are eating and the ratio?  To me, that is the first thing to do.   You have to take a "hardcore" look at what you are eating and yes account (write down) for every sip, nibble or drink.

Then when you have that data over time (say for a week) you can make a plan to see what you need to change. More than likely carbs have crept more into your diet and your doing more of that and less protein. This seems to be pretty normal for anyone out a few years.  Many carbs are "slider" foods that do nothing to fill us up.  Focus on dense proteins and veggies (non starch)  and see how they fill you up in comparison.

Get back to water and vitamins.

Write down and account for everything.

Good luck!  Regain is very hard to lose - it's a battle for me too. Up and down constantly.

have you tried to get back on track with the proper balance of proteins calories etc?

...I would ASSUME that being in post-partum, you were/aren't eating the best.

you gained less that 40lbs with your pregnancy, that's not a huge amount, and I am not sure if being 40lbs overweight would constitute a revision...but then again I don;t know what the guidelines for a revision are.

the tool can be kicked back into working order it takes at least a week or two of strict following the basic rules...

I don't know anything about revisions....I guess you would have to find a doctor that does them and see what the possible results would/might be.

make an app't and discuss it with a physician familiar with the precocedure..also not sure if a revision is covered by OHIP???~!!

all the best on your journey back to a comfortable weight~!

prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.

life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!.  Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!
