22 days post op and struggling
Not sure you could tolerate it, but I bought some protein shots for after surgery. I found them at Wal Mart where all the protein powders are. 35 grams of concentrated protein in a tube of fluid flavoured like fruit punch. I'm sure you could get some of that in if you treat it like medicine. You need the protein to heal among other things.
Good luck

Others are correct - that is not the right protein for us. It is made up mostly of collagen (think boiled animal hooves and skin) and we do not absorb it well. Besides the fact that hooves and skin are yucky.

I am 33 days post-op and I totally feel your pain! My tastes are changing and I'm having to figure out what I like again.
I know every doctor is different but are you still on all liquids? I only did liquids for 7 days. Can you not try soups, yogurt, etc. You can always move onto the next section on your own. Test your tummy with little bits of mild pured food to see if you can handle it. My group suggested this when I was getting frustrated.
You should also try crystal lite and different temperatures. You may also be allowed to drink teas so try that.
Lastly, buy some new protein shakes. Your tastes are probably changing.

Hi Teasha
I'm sorry that you are having a hard time with post op, but from someone who was drinking every fifteen minutes, trying to ge****er in, and ended up back in hospital for a few more days a week after surgery because of dehydration (and I mean this in the nicest, but concerned and urgent, way).... START DRINKING SOMETHING. Figure out what works for you, crystal light, diet koolaid, luke warm water, ho****er, hot decaf tea, whatever, just get it in! I found that I loved ice chips. At home, I made up crystal light and poured that into an ice cube tray. When they were frozen, I just put them in a zip lock baggie and broke them up with a meat mallet. I knew that every ice cube in my tray held 20 mls of water, so I was able to count that to my fluid. What about skim milk? That counts as fluid and every cup contains 9 grams of protein.
Also, protein shakes tasted funky to me post surgery too. I ended up mixing the scoop of powder with water in the least amount needed (not diluted) and kind of drank it like a shot (in the little measuring cups the hospital gave me) while holding my nose so I wouldn't taste it as much. This helped to up my protein until I was getting in enough from food.
The main point though, is it will get better. Your protein will work itself up but keep aiming for that 60 to 80 and start drinking something!!!!
All the best!
