Ridiculous weight loss!

Had a "week and a half" follow up appt with Dr Gmora today to have my drain and staples removed (long story... ).  Its always great to see him, he makes me feel like I am killing it even though I feel like I am recovering soo sllllooowwwlllllyyyy.  I told him I have not been weighing myself at home (too nervous!), so he weighed me at the clinic and I have lost 33 lbs since my pre-op appts on Oct. 21.

33 lbs. this is unreal right? 33 lbs in 18 days?

Just wanted to share my good news:) I know the rapid weight loss won't last forever but dammit if I'm not going to enjoy it while its here!

Nope.
That sounds about right, actually.
Well, a lot more than what I lost - but still, quite within the realm of normal.

On OptiFast you lost a lot of fat (hence the OptiTrots).
You also drank a lot, so you washed out a lot liquid.
Then you had the surgery, whcih removed some actual poundage of organs from you.
THen you had an IV, and a drain, which flushed fluids right through you.

Nope. I predict you will stall relatively soon, but that's fine after such a dramatic loss.

Keep going.

the strange thing is, I lost barely anything on 4 weeks of optifast.  its like my body was being stubborn (big surprise...) and holding onto all this weight.  I only lost 8 lbs over the 3 weeks of Optifast before my pre-op appointments.  now, all of a sudden, WHOOSH.

i'm glad i've decided not to weigh myself at home until my next appt - i don't think i could handle the stress of a stall!

You're doing great!  Sure feels good, doesn't it!

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora.  Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

Yep, feels good, been a while since I've seen decreasing numbers on the scale! Thanks Megan :)

That's great news! And you'll probably sleep a lot better without the drains in. I had mine in for almost two weeks and they were a major pain but it was so much more comfortable with them gone. Wishing you continued success! It sounds like you are doing great so far!

Thanks smiley:) I did sleep much better without the drain, I feel like my insides are back in the right place, if that makes sense.  I'm sure everything will heal much more quickly now that the plastic tube is all gone!

Hi Mary,

Wow, that is great progress.  I bet you have also noticed that your clothes are too big.

Congratulations,

Judy
