Suitcase is out.
Congratulations Joyce on the great start on optifast.
You will do really well. Sending lots of healing vibes your way.
I definately agree with the pillow. I only had a 15 minute drive after surgery and hugged it all the way home. It just added that little protection for any bumps along the way. And don't be shy at the airport, lie down if you need to. 10 hours is a long wait! Take care,

Great job with the Optifast! My pre-op nurse said that 20-22 lbs seems to be average for what people lose on optifast. I had no problems on the drive home (about 45 minutes) but the pillow sounds like a good idea. No pain with sitting. Make sure you take some pain meds before you leave the hospital and have your prescribed pain meds in your bag in case you need something on the way home.
Best wishes for your surgery and an easy recovery.
Is there any way to reduce your wait time at the airport? 10 hours is a very long time especially after a 1 hour road trip. What about spending your last night at an airport hotel and ask for a late check out time? That way you can rest until you need to go to the airport. Just a thought.

Best of Luck! Good luck on Friday!

Surgery JAN. 19th, 2012 - Down 120 lbs & 75 inches @ my last Weigh in!!!!

Good luck, Joyce. Everything will be just fine. I found the ride from Hamilton to the airport to be a bit unnerving, but I think it was because I wasn't used to the speed and heavy traffic more than anything else. Very little pain, just a little discomfort. The plane ride was also no problem, but I was very glad to be home.
There's not much of anything at the airport that you can buy to eat. They wouldn't let me take boost through, but they did allow my apple juice. We had lunch in one of the restaurants (can't remember the name), and I ordered an onion soup w/o the cheese or bread, and just spooned out the broth. It really was delicious, and a nice change from everthing else. It was a very emotional time there, so be prepared. Just walk and sip, walk and sip. Good luck on Friday.

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora. Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.
Take it down with you in your suitcase b/c you'll need it. Coming home they wouldn't allow it, but didn't say why. I can only speculate it was because the apple juice, which was from the hospital, was in a clear container, while the boost is not - can't see in. But I'm only speculating about this. I explained that I just had surgery and it was the only thing I could eat, and they offered to call a supervisor. By then I was becoming emotional and teary, so I said to forget it. That's when we went to the restaurant and I had the onion soup broth. They were very nice about the whole thing, but I was fast becoming an emotional wreck, so I opted to let them have it. You have a long wait at the airport - you might want to try to pre-arrange something b/c there's not much there that you can have other than apple juice, soup broth, and milk (and even that I had to have 2%, didn't have skim, but it didn't kill me for the 1/4 cup or so I was able to drink).
