Soooooo nausous......help

My RNY was on November 8th, everything went according to plan.  I felt really good until Saturday evening, thats when the nausea started.  I  have been doing a good job getting in my water, bu my protein intake has been horrible.  I cannot stomach any protein shake I've tried.  I'm thinking the lack of protein could perhaps cause the nausea but today i started thinking it was the multi vitamins (centrum 50+ chewables).
I was thinking I would try doing a smoothie with some greek yogurt, fruit and unflavoured protein powder, maybe some crystal light or milk to thin it out...  can I even have this at this point?  Anything else I have eaten I have handled no problem but its only been cream soups,  cottage cheese, apple sauce, etc

please help me with any suggestions....  thanks

I'm not sure if this would help but I couldn't stomach my protein shakes until recently (I'm on the regular, solid foods diet) and I was able to disguise the protein with different flavours and fruits blended into my shakes. For the first little while, I ended up taking shots of protein. My protein, which I bought from GNC, says to mix 2 scoops (40 grams) with 8oz of fluid minimum. I mix one scoop with about a 1/4 cup of water. It was heavy, but I was able to get this down fairly quickly by taking little shots of it every fifteen minutes or so and having a few sips of crystal light in between to get rid of the taste. I also found that I had a better time when I didn't smell it, for me, it was the smell that made me feel queasy. I plugged my nose and took the sips of the shake until it was gone. It wasn't a glamourous process to view, but it worked for me. Another suggestion would be to add unflavoured protein powder into your cream soups. I found that cream of broccoli hid the protein really well. Again, I didn't use the full serving, just half of one scoop (so for my powder, 10 grams of protein) and added it into the soup. Couldn't taste it and helped to get in the extra protein. Hope these help and that you determine what's causing the nausea and that you get it fixed! Best of luck!

Eating fruit would not be a good idea for you while you're trying to lose weight, it's nothing but sugar. Some greek yogurt, unflavoured protein, and crystal light though might be good - you could even try freezing the yogurt. You could also put the protein powder in the yogurt just to eat. I've discovered that Splenda in the natural greek yogurt or a teaspoon of No Sugar Added jam is good too (be careful reading the labels on the jam though, some is still quite high in sugars, look for no more than 4g, 2g is better, in a serving, usually a teaspoon). You also can have sugar-free pudding with protein powder. I found an amazing dessert you can add it too as well, Dr. Oetker makes a sugar-free chocolate mousse that is really good, just toss in some protein!

You can also try some other protein shakes, if you buy from GNC or Popeyes they will let you return anything you don't like. GNC has the Whey Gourmet line which tastes awesome (chocolate-peanut butter I've tried but there are many flavours). A non-milky shake I like is the Weider's Whey Fruit Splash at Shoppers drug mart, it's like a mango fruit punch.

Keep in mind that protein shakes count toward your 2L fluid requirements, so its doesn't have to add to your fluid burden. Push for as much protein as you can get in, at least 80g is a good goal.

Sorry, I also meant to tell you that some vitamins can make you nauseous if you take them on an empty stomach so try to take them with a protein shake or snack and that may make a difference!

Sorry, I don't want this to sound rude, I don't mean that at all!!!  Please know that.
I'm comfused... have you had the surgery?  Or have you just tried these combos already?  I know you are well researched.
Thanks

I haven't had surgery yet, but I've tried all the things I've mentioned. I can't stomach anything solid in the mornings due to my IBS, so I've been eating a morning protein shake for a long time. I also recently had teeth pulled and had complications with my braces so I was on fluids/soft foods for a couple of weeks. I generally try to eat a low carb/high protein diet.

I'm always curious why people think it matters though.

Well I think it matters because we aren't there yet.... so we don't really "know".

But I was curious if you had tried these sugestions.  Thanks for answering.

Have a great day.

What don't I know? What a likely cause of nausea is? What protein shakes taste good?

I think you mean that I haven't experienced surgery yet. So what? While experience is one way to gain knowledge, its not nearly as good as doing research from medical journals about the surgery. Your own experience gives you a sample size of 1, and a very limited look at the surgery. Looking at hundreds of studies about bariatric surgery gives you thousands and thousands of cases to see what the post-op experience is on average with all the typical struggles, as well as what is atypical. Would you rather have a doctor who has had bariatric surgery or one who has studied it?

I'd appreciate it if you would speak for yourself only in the future.
