Hair Loss Question
Thanks Simona! I went out last night to see TSO (Trans Siberian Orchestra) with a friend and thought "gee I should take a new picture seeing I was dressed up a bit" lol.

Surgery July 22, 2011 Starting weight 270 128 lbs lost Today's weight 142 lbs Ann
Mine started about 2 and 1/2 months out and seemed like a lot initially. It really wasn't too bad *knock on wood* but just that my natural part got really wide and some of my hair at my hairline receeded a bit. I notice, but no one else and I started parting my hair at a different place. At 4 months + out, it's slowing a bit but still coming out. I haven't really noticed any regrowth yet.

I took zinc for 3 months and then shifted to Biotin, which I am still using at 9 months post-op. My hair loss started at 6 months, and in volume "lost" was probably twice as much as usual for 2 1/2 months, and has now slowed down to 1/4 to 1/3 more than usual at 9 months. Actually saw the hair dresser yesterday who has been doing my hair for over 30 years and she said for the first time ever my ends are breaking off, and my hair is drier than usual. She also said it's getting lighter in colour?! I am getting little fluffies in though, so regrowth doen't seem to be an issue. I am very careful to get my 70 - 100 gms of protein in ALWAYS. Guess WLS has been a real shock to my system. My nails are ridging and splitting / peeling too, also for the first time in my life. The nutritionist said the nail issue is a complication of low iron - which I am trying to boost.

Mine started falling out about 3 months - finally stopped in september/ish - and the new growth is coming in fuzzy - I'm going saturday to get it all cut off - i can't stand it. I've been coloring it for about 20 years and suddenly the color I use isn't how it turns out - so I off it goes and we'll see what will be.
Mine started around 3 months out. I'm now about 7 1/2 months out and it's actually gotten worse (even though my weight loss has slowed considerably, and I'm getting in my protein, vits etc every day). I actually thought about posting about it, something like "losing hair but not losing weight". Just have to wait it out, I'm sure it will slow soon.
I'm almost 5 months out and have just recently truly noticed the hair loss, mostly in the front where my bangs are. My hair is naturally thick, so you really can't see any massive loss in that respect, just in the front.
I cut it short (pixey style) in late August, so that helped hide the loss for a bit. But I'm one of those "It's just hair" people, and I know it will grow back eventually. At least it's coming into winter and I can wear a hat outside without strange looks!
BTW: Any issues you have with your fingernails is directly related to your hair. Both are made of kerotin - essentially your fingernails are hard hair folicles. Bad hair = bad nails, and vice versa.
