Time for an Introduction (:
Hello Ontario Board!
I had the DS surgery in Mexico on June 21st 2011 with Dr. Ungson when I was 23 years old.
In September I moved back to Ontario after living in BC for almost two years. I fought long and hard with BC Health to cover the DS but they wouldn't budge.
I did have a complication while I was in Mexico but it wasn't anyone's fault. On my 9th day post-op an artery near my pancreas burst. My travel mate called the doctors after I passed out in our hotel room and when they arrived my blood pressure was 60/20. I was immediately taken to the hospital where Dr. Ungson and the rest of his team were waiting for me. After an unsuccessful ultra-sound I was taken for a CAT scan which is how they found the bled. I ended up losing 3 litres of blood and since my blood type is rare down there (O-) they weren't able to replace much. I was kept in the hospital for an additional 3 days before being release back to the hotel for another 3 days. Then we went back home (:
My highest weight was 340 lbs and at the time of surgery I weighed 332 lbs. As of November 21st I have lost 84 lbs since surgery and 92 lbs from my highest.
Getting surgery was the best thing that I have ever done (:

Welcome to the forum and I'm glad all of your complications got sorted out and congrats on your successes so far. The Ontario bunch is incredibly informative and welcoming! I feel like I've made good friends even though I've only met a few in person! I'm also a part of the weightloss surgery in your 20s group if you want any age specific support, you are welcome there too! All the best!
Happy to hear that things turned around for you quickly. You have really amazing before and after shots. That's the one thing I wish I had done - I'm very limited with regard to photos.
Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora. Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.
