Hi everyone. Well I'm going under the knife on the 19th. Optifast is not fun but totally doable. I have had a kosher pickle 3x last week on my first week. I need some clarification on sugar alcohols and agave nectars. R the allowed or not? I've been wanting crunch & chocolate & found sugar free mint chocolate candies to satisfy the craving, but too paranoid to have one!!! All this & I find out that some centers are allowing veg while on Opti... So I guess I shouldn't sweat it :-)

no, not allowed, likely, ask your surgeon's office, different centres have different rules, follow the rules given to you by your WLS centre.

Best advice - from me anyway - follow your centre's guidelines.

I went through Guelph and we were allowed nothing outside of clear liquid and optifast.
I cheated on day three and ate a bite of celery !!  felt like the world was going to end.

besides that one cheat, I ate absolutely nothing else that was not on the approved list.
I was not about to take a chance and sabotage my surgery.  One of the hardest things I ever did and the most gratifying because I am now 10 months out and 84 pounds lighter !!!!!

stay clear of the sugar of any kind during this period.  You are not only cleansing your body but your mind as well !!!  Get ready for the ride of your life.

If you've been wanting crunch and chocolate, have you tried making a frosty type concoction out of your optifast? Mix optifast with a tiny bit of water just to disolve it and blend it with a handful of icecubes. It would probably equal mixing it with 500mls of water which is what I did.... I didn't try the slushy/frosty type version because I was one of the odd people who liked optifast, but have heard people talking about them. I also froze crystal ligh****er in icecube trays and blended them into slushies because my surgery was in the summer and it made a nice cool treat that I was allowed to have according to my program. Hope this helps! Good luck with surgery!

Hi,

In Ottawa, we are allowed up to 20 calories of sugar-free mints per day while on Optifast.  Pickles are not on the list!  LOL  Neither are any vegetables.
