Pain Meds Question

 Ok.. I have a question.. Was anyone else prescribed percocets for pain? And if so, what did you mix it up in so it doesn't taste like total utter s**t?

I haven't tried much to mix it in yet, but the ones I have tried are absolutely disgusting..

applesauce - no way lol.. can barely get this down
chocolate pudding - nope, tastes worse than the applesauce
white chocolate pudding - again, tastes so disgusting I can barely stomach it

I like those foods by themselves, but this percocet is just nasty. Does anyone have any suggestions? Did anyone else have percocets and find a way to get them down without nearly gagging at the taste? I hope someone can help me out!!

Unfortunately, percs just taste plain awful - no hiding it.  I used to crush them and disolve them in a litte water and drink it.  It was AWFUL - but soooooo worth it for the pain relief. lol

 kudos to you too Karen! I don't know how you could manage just mixing it in water! Maybe I'm just a big wimp lol

I think it was the overpowering pain that swept over me. lol

Nothing can mask the taste of them. I chewed them and swallowed with a bit of water. 

 Good grief lol.. I can't imagine just chewing them by themselves!!! Good for you for being able to get through that lol, but I don't think its something I could do!!

 The only thing they offered me at the hospital for all my pills was apple sauce. It was awful and my one pill was bright blue so when they mixed it in the applesauce turned a lovely shade of green. So NOT appetizing!
I found the easiest for me was asking for the crushed pills, pouring them all on my tongue at once and drinking it down with something thicker than water, like milk or decaf tea. I poured the ounce I was allowed, used half of it to swallow the crushed pills and the other half to swish in my mouth to get the taste out. This worked for me... about 5 days out, I asked if I could just cut the pill up into eighths. That was much easier and just as effective for me and once I was out of the hospital, I just quartered my pills. I hope these suggestions help because as far as I'm concerned, crushed pills taste gross no matter what, it's just trying to find the less gross option.  

Have you tried to just swallow them whole? I know it seems like a scarey proposition, but I have never crushed pills since my WLS. I have always taken everything whole.

 I was told by the APN to buy the Smuckers SF Caramel Sauce.  Found with the ice cream toppings in Canadian Store now. It costs about $5.

I only crushed my pills for the first couple of days then started swallowing them whole, or if they were big I cut them in 1/2.  I think it's just a grin and bare it kind of scenario....nothing is going to make it tasteless.
