HRRH Blood Lab Results
It's a really good idea to get copies of your results. If you have them, you can identify trends with your levels before you are actually deficient in anything and take proactive action. You may also decide to start supplementing something that is "ok", but could be better, but the office is never going to call you about anything that isn't deficient. Having a look at your own labs is the only way to really know how your levels are doing before things get really bad.
I just got my call about 2 weeks ago from Humber. It took about 2 weeks to get it. I was starting to wonder if it was OK. Turned out my iron and vit D were a bit low even though I take high dosage bariatric vitamins from unjury.com. I asked for the actual numbers and they were different from the ones I am used to seeing from my fam dr's lab. They said my iron was 6.4 and the normal range is between 7 and 30. My vitamin D was a 79 and it should be over 125.She said that the numbers could look different depending on which lab does the testing. Can you believe this? There is no standardization for this in the province!.I also do not accept "if you don't hear from us everything is ok" as I have had crutial reports get lost before from other labs.
I asked if they could send me a copy of the report as I keep copies of all my medical files. I take ownwership for my health when it comes to doctors and tests and get all my reports in writing. She told me "No" they don't do that but said she would fax it to my fam dr's office and I should get a copy from there. I was going to see my fam dr the next week otherwise I would have asked for the manager and pushed it. I got my copy from my fam dr but that may not always be convenient.
I am now taking 2 Proferrin per day for the iron and an extra 3000 IU of Vitamin D. The iron makes me feel better, more energy. Next report at 3 months. Hopefully will be better.
Good Luck
