I've quit drinking coffee and liquor/beer and soft drinks a week ago....but my surgery is in a months time... Hope that will be ok!

I've read some places that you are supposed to stop 3 months before even 4 months, but the normal is 2. Ugh I hope I haven't messed up, between Christmas/new years and my 40th bday! But I haven't had a drop since and won't. I also don't smoke.

Thanks!

Thanks! I've been here a bunch of times, just sporadically. It's a great site and even better forum! I start my optifast on Jan 25th Yum Yum!

I have to note, I wasn't a heavy alcholol or coffee drinker, very casual at most. I haven't had any withdrawal symptoms yet, I just wanted to make sure I had enough time for my stomach not to be irritated from either before the surgery.

I actually didnt mind the optifast, was nice to not have to think about what i was going to eat.

I'm at best a very casual wine drinker, yet it was the thing i missed most, post surgery. lol

It's so nice to have a glass of wine now and then.

Hi Swagger.  I agree with Monica.  I think my surgeon only required us to be off it one month before surgery as well.  I'm sure you will be fine, particulary if your surgeon didn't give you any specific instructions around it.

Welcome to the boards!

Every clinic seems to have their own rules around those things.  Some make you stop 6 months before and others let you have caffeine and diet soft drinks while on Opti.  I think the smoking would be the biggest problem of all of them and since you don't do that, I'd not worry.

you'll be fine... not exactly what our centre recomends but at least a month free is fine just make sure you follow your opti instructions and your preop stuff.  Good luck and msg me if you have any travel questions.  Good Luck

I am sure you will be fine as long as you stay off it now and follow the Optifast portion of the plan to the "T". I found the first six days of Opti were the hardest time of this whole journey. I had awful headaches and other symptoms from my body cleansing itself. Just keep the focus on the long term goal and you'll do great.

Best of Luck...

Are we allowed to take anything for these headaches during that period? And what about pain killers post op?

I"d contact your clinic, but I would think Tylenol could be okay.  Tylenol is definitely okay post-op.
