I'm not dead!!!
.....although I am icing my hip....
so Saturday morning, I left to go to my first Running Room class and was absolutely terrified. I was there totally early and the store wasn't even open!! I sat during the first 30 minutes looking around me and evaluating where I fit in...I definitely was not the biggest person there!!! That was my first fear alleviated right off the bat.
I started out somewhere in the middle and managed to stay there the whole way!! My second fear alleviated!!! I did not get left behind. We ran 1 minute and walked 2....which was interesting because I never really thought I had enough time to get into the groove......that being said, wait til we' re up to 3 or 4 minutes and see how I feel!!!
When we got to the end, the instructor high fived everyone and it was only then that I really realized that I finished.....the last fear!!!
I got into my car and burst into tears!! I did it! I f*$#king did it!!!
but wait! there's more!!!
This morning.... I got up and did it all over again!! It was raining and cold and I did NOT want to get out of my bed, but I did.....and I went....and I did it again!!!
The first time in my life that I can honestly say I AM PROUD OF MYSELF!!!!
Remember to rest though. You don't want to fall into the trap of overtraining. DOMS is going to be normal - rest & ice if necessary. Get in plenty of water - your muscles need it to recover.
Here's some hip stretching exercises. Mine gave me a problem for a while too, but i really found that yoga and stretching helped with them.
Good that you take a day off to rest.
Make sure you get a good stretch in after the run. Pay attention to how they tell you to stretch at the Running Room.
I remember my first 5k run, I felt I was flying! Same with the first time I did 10k!
You can do it!!!
