Sorry to hear about your back pain, I know how bad it can be. I've had back pain since a spinal injury when I was a kid. I notice it flaring up a lot lately, I think from being more active but I hear losing weight can cause things to re-align.

You had RNY so no NSAIDS for you! You can take Tylenol, but you can get Tylenol 1s (acetaminophen + codeine) over the counter at any pharmacy. They're not on the shelves, you have to ask. These are fine to take, neither is an NSAID. I get terrible migraines and have only had 2 since surgery. Both times I took a single Tylenol 1 and it got rid of the headache right away.

You can also ask your GP/surgeon what would be appropriate to take OTC after surgery. Even ask the pharmacist, they know their stuff. Just tell them no NSAIDs.

Sorry to hear about your pain. I suffered from severe back pain pre-op and it actually got worse post-op for a while as my body changed. Sleeping was awful. As much as I thought chiroprators were a bit hoakey and I only ever found temporary relief in the past, I tried it again as I was at my wits end. It was amazing how it helped and I go regularly now.

All that being said if you feel that something isn't right and the pain is not subsiding you should get it checked out. Sometimes things can feel like one thing and manifest as another.

Hope you feel better soon,

Kristie

Anything with codeine in it is a Narcotic (i.e. T3).

FYI - re the Aspirin

If she's possibly having a heart attack - standard protocol is to take an aspirin to thin blood & reduce blood clots, increasing cardiac oxygen

The ER protocol is MONA (Morphine Oxygen Nitroglycerin Asperin) (not in that order).

The one you can take at home is aspirin.  Many ER`s have a standard that you must receive an aspirin within a certain time of coming in with chest pain.  One Aspirin will not cause an ulcer, although for general pain relief in WLS patients they should be avoided.
