Carb question
I was originally going to post this to "vets" but I will try not to segregate like that and open this up to anyone who may have a suggestion.
First of all, I don't have Internet at home anymore. Summer is for playing outside. not for indoor video gaming!! and I was never able to access the forums from work before but now it looks like they have relaxed some of the firewalls so here I am again!! I was gone but now I'm back!
So I am doing pretty good; I run a lot and eat well etc....but I am pretty much stuck where I am and have been for months. I haven't lost anything for several months now. I am not stressing over it (much!) as the WMC in Ottawa seems to be happy with my progress so far. I am just a bit worried that my progress is now halted and I want to make sure that I am still on track. I am not sure I have complete faith in the nutritionist in Ottawa though...so looking for some input.
I have taken into account the fact that I am putting on muscle by running. I have adjusted my calories, etc etc. My last session with the dietitian, she told me I had to increase my calories (to 2000 per day!! I said no, and compromised at 1500) and to add carbs because of all the running. (my protein intake is fine)
I find that with the addition of these extra carbs (I had previously set my carb target at 100g per day) I find that I am just not losing! I cant eat bread, so I have added cereals and other grains, low fat crackers and granola bars. I tried oatmeal but that stuff is friggin nasty. YUCK!!
I realize that because I only have another 30 or so lbs to lose that it will come off more slowly now, but a 3 month stall seems a bit extreme, no?
I always felt that I was getting in enough carbs from fruit and veg but she insists I need to add grain based carbs to my diet. I am not convinced of this. I looked at other nutritionists but they are V-E-R-Y expensive!!!! $1000 for a 12 week plan!!!
Thoughts? Suggestions? Input??

you need to remember if you are exercising than you are building muscles which will weigh more. I do alot of running and I find when I leave the carbs out of my diet it effects my running. As my trainer says eat good health carbs. Your body needs it. Be careful of the granola bars they can be high in sugar. Have you tried the whole wheat pasta. I also get good healthy carbs from fruit. One more advice measure your self you may be surprise and find out that you are losing inches.
Hi Jennifer,
How many carbs does she want you to have per day? I would think that even with the running, 100 would be more than sufficient. A grain that I really enjoy (and it has protein) is quinoa. VERY healthy. There are some great salad-type recipes on the recipe forum.
You know, I hit my lowest weight at just over 3 years out. Just when I would think I was in maintenance, I would start to lose again. Bodies are weird!

she actually wanted more.....on a 2000 calorie diet, 55% of it should be carbs, she said. Which is about 275g.
I told her there was no way I was going to even TRY to manage 2000 calories a day, because I would be too stressed out about it first of all and second of all, I just physically couldnt do it without pretty much eating during my every waking hour.
Even at 200g, that is doubling my carb intake from what it was before. I just wanted to shout at her and say....ummm did you forget you are dealing with WLS patients here???

55% ? Uhhh..... no. What happened to the 40/30/30 theory with the 40 being PROTEIN as a WLS patient! There's no way I could ever eat 2000 calories per day, everyday. I wouldn't stess too much about this. Do what you're comfortable with.

, but I can say that I always lost best at 40 or less carbs a day.
Not much help, huh?
