I was suppose to be discharged today but just before the doctors got here I started bleeding through the rectum. I have to stay in until the bleeding stops or they have to reoperate.  Has anyone else experience this? I will check back periodically because I have to feed in off my cell Internet. No Internet available at tegh. Thank you everyone in advance Heidi

Sometimes you just put one foot in front of the other, even if you don't know where you're going.

Did they stop your blood thinners?  What colour is the blood and do they plan to do an ultrasound or anything diagnostic with you??  That's effing NUTS to 'just wait' til the bleeding stops.  Heidi, don't wait around.  Rectal bleeding is serious.

Yup. Happened to me. I had surgery July 20 and started having "black" diarrhea about 24 hours later. It went on for about 18 hours and I think I had maybe 10 episodes. My hemoglobin dropped into the 80's and I almost fainted twice. I had a blood transfusion - only two units of blood. I was told that if the bleeding continued they'd have to do a scope. But it finally tapered off. It was explained to me that sometimes they might nick a blood vessel during surgery (with a staple) and it usually stops bleeding on its own. I was kept in an extra day as well because of this.

I remember being scared and upset when I was going through it, and I felt like crap. Hang in there!
