disappointing 6 month dietician appointment...
Feeling kind of upset over my 6 month follow up.
I have reached a normal BMI (am now just under 24) and feeling good. Have been playing around with my calorie intake (upping it a litte) to see what happens. between 1000-1200 and am still losing about a lb/week or a bit more.
I have been getting around 70-90 grams of protein per day. The dietician said that this was too much and I should be getting only around 45 grams now (I am only 5 ft tall and now weighing in at 117lb). She also said that I am eating too many "treats". So for example I told her I ate a greek yogurt that was sweetened (it had about 10gr of sugar vs 1.3 gms in the unsweetened) she seemed to feel this was a slippery slope. I ate out recently for my daughter's 16th birthday (only done this twice in 6 months) and although ate small amounts, sampled a few high fat foods (one fallafel ball, some hummus and a small wedge of thin crust pizza) . I logged this and accounted for this but she made me feel bad.
I left feeling discouraged. I had been trying to transition to a more "normal diet" and not making everything SOO rigid. It appears I am not a dumper and while I don't want to be eating what I ate before, felt that a little flexibility was not a bad thing.
She said most post-ops maintain at 1000 calories/day in the long run and made me feel that the fact that I was eating 1000-1200 cal/day was a problem (even though I am still losing weekly). I should say I do exercise (training now for a 10k so run 3x/wk for about 1 hour and work out with a personal trainer 1/wk).
I know there is no pure science here but I live in fear of regain (as I know many of us do). This has triggered some negative feelings for me and (to be frank) has also triggered some of my binge urges (which I posted about elsewhere). I don't want to give her this power but I am struggling to find a balance between some of her valid observations and some things which I felt were too rigid.
Would love to hear from others your thoughts/experiences.
Thanks,
Andrea.

I have heard some real horror stories about Denise and I am terrified that I am going to end up having her for one of my post-op appts but so far I have had Michelle for all my appts and I beyond adore her, she is very informative, helpful and supportive and she is firm without being degrading.
I am sorry you had a bad experience with Denise but like one of the other ladies said take the good and leave the bad and hopefully next time you can see one of the other RD.

Hi Andrea
Sounds to me like you are doing great
Just as an FYI....when maintaining.....I eat 1500 - 2500 roughly ......I vary the calories per day to keep my body in suspense....
I am currently trying to lose my small regain....so have cut back...
So I am not sure where she gets the 1000-1200 calorie post op figure from....I lose on that
You know your body better then everyone.....the slippery slope is true....but you are at goal....
The key is to learn to live in moderation....if you cant do it then dont touch your trigger foods.....if you can....then you can eat everything
