Question about Ketosis - post op
Just wondering how long the body generally stays in ketosis, if anyone knows?
My family doctor has told me that I need to be eating more carb's, since the ketones in my urine are so high. (not really that high I don't think...1.5)
I guess I could call down to HRRH and ask, but I'm not sure this is such a huge deal?
I'm eating about 80 to 100 grams of protein a day, and around 30-40 grams of carbs.
Anyone else have their doc tell them this?
Ketosis is a good thing. It means your body is getting rid of fat. You will stay in ketosis for as long as you keep your carbs low, usually less than 50g/day. I stayed in ketosis for 6 months post-op.
Out of curiosity, why did you measure your ketosis? I never thought to.
Surgery March 23/2011. Completed three full marathons and two half marathons, two half Ironman distances. Completed my first Full Ironman distance (4 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km (full marathon) run) in Muskoka August 30/2015. Next Ironman Lake Placid July 23/2017!
I wanted to stay in ketosis for the rapid weight loss and fat loss it allowed. You can easily measure it with keto-sticks.
I'm not sure whether I'm in ketosis or not - I doubt it. I eat anywhere from 50-80g of carbs per day (usually somewhere in the 60's), as part of about an 800-900 calorie diet. I have been for a while now. Seems to be working for me.
