the "plank"
I went through HRRH and in the 1 month follow up hand out it clearly states that heavy activity like vacuuming, abdominal or upper body exercises should not be done for 3 MONTHS!!!!!
Please follow what your center is telling you- the rules are there for a reason--others have tried and found out the hard way that it is not worth the risk.
I completely agree with the above answers! You may only have about 6 cuts healing on the outside, but on the inside you got totally rearranged! A plank?????? Ouch......I am almost 5 months out and just started yoga with planking about 2 months ago....I can hold it for 30 seconds and OUCH!!! killer on the abs!! Don't do that until you are better healed like maybe in a couple months or so....just walk right now maybe walk L O N G E R if you are feeling good but don't over do it, you don't want to wind up back in the hospital when you just got out!!!
Take it easier, walk walk walk walk!!
Wow, that got some of you going!
I have spoken with the nurse practitioner at 1.5 weeks out from surgery and she said I had the OK to exercise, but to go slowly!
Perhaps I should have said that I am not lifting anything remotely heavy, nor am I engaging my tummy, and the plank was a learning experience, cause while I do feel great, I do get the pull in my left side when I do certain things, like lay down on my stomach and try to get up using my abs. So I won't be doing that again any time soon. Promise!
I was very active pre-op, so sitting around is killing me! Rest assured, I am walking walking and walking some more. No fancy cardio machines for me, and no classes, that will likely be well into the new year before those things can be accomplished.
So, in a nutshell, I hear ya!

I am 4 weeks out. I have been walking daily and doing dishes since week 2 and just in the last week starting to do chores around the house. No heavy lifting, just sorting and folding. I did some very light raking last week and stopped the moment it started to pull. I tried a easy excercise tape the other day (\Walk away the pounds) and didn't last 8 minutes. No more of that for a while. Listening to my body and not pushing it. The problem with lap surgery is that you heal fast on the outside and seem fine but as others have said, your inners are all rearranged and so many things could go wrong. Smart idea to put the kibosh on the plank for a while.
