Hi all,
I have been doing A LOT of reading and research on WLS, I definitely want to do it... I'm going for an orientation next week... But I have hypothyroidism, will that disqualify me from being a candidate? I'm meds and have been for years...

I have hypothyroidism and on meds as well. I don't believe it will make any difference.

Good luck

Thanks! I totally had a brief panic-y moment now that I have decided to go for the surgery it would suck if I couldn't have it!

I have hypothyroid and have been on meds for ages and that did not stop my approval for surgery.

Referred HRRH Apr.  2012, Info. Session: Sept 12/12, Surgeon Consult: Dr L Smith Sept 19/12,  RD/SW/RN/ Nov 19/12.  Surgery Date:  April 29, 2013

I am also hypothyroid and on medications and went through the surgery fine. Your dosages may need adjusting as you loose weight though so make sure post surgery you are still in contact with your medical team and getting bloodwork done appropriately.

Any medical condition must be stable by medication or any other medical intervention (e.g. sleep apnea - CPAP).  So if you are taking your prescribed meds for this and your blood work shows the results you will be fine.

I also have no thyroid anymore and when starting out I was still under the care of an Oncologist and during my wait time I had the second half of my thyroid removed due to thyroid cancer...I was not delayed or cancelled during the process due to this....so try not to stress about it
