Confused on eating post surgery?!
it's called taking a BIG FAT STUPID CHANCE...and many people do try...myself included...I tried to eat meatloaf with gravy in week 3...not a good choice.
stick by the guidelines and save yourself the pain aggravation/foamies and all that other hurt that MANY of these people who "test" things early end up with
I am not saying that a spoonful of mashed potatoes will cause you harm in week 2...what I will say is that your bariatric team provides you will guidelines...if you choose to step outside those guidelines that is your CHOICE
....I will also say I am SURE there is a legal reason for providing this information to their patients..if in week three you decided to eat a pork chop and ended up with an obstruction or tear..., the surgeon could then PROOVE that wasn't an approved/suggested food!!
prior to surgery 323lbs....4 years post-op maintaining between 108- 114 lb loss.
life is AMAZING when you continue on the right path~!. Use your surgeons gift to the fullest~!

surgery done in Duluth, MN
So... I was an uppity, opinionated pre-op and now I am an uppity, opinionated 3 day post op.
Things I have learned... Though my center doing things:
Full fluids can be implemented 24 hours out if there is a problem accommodating you for clear but it is their say so and you shouldn't leave till 24 hrs of full fluids are into you and staying put IN MY OPINION.
What you can tolerate may surprise you... and I was surprised at how many didn't know how to make the beneprotein on their tray work for them. 3 days out and I already know something about my VSG tummy that i didn't before surgery.
I can and do tolerate beneprotein mixed into skim milk best... takes a lot of stirring but if you mix it nearly completely, then let it sit for 5 min and re-stir it is rather creamy.
Even with a VSG I got the foamies with carnation instant fat free milk mixed into my 125ml of skim milk. It was WAY too sweet for me too... I am not a "sweet"girl.
I will GLADLY pay the 26.99 at the HRRH pharmacy if I have to for a container of the beneprotein over 9 for a bag of the carnation if I am not keeping the carnation down. A scoop of 7g 3x/day makes it cost effective. How much is a #1 meal at McDonald's with a diet coke and fries? $6.86 last time I paid for one for a single meal.
It takes me 60-120 minutes to eat a meal... it is up to me to make the most of the protein choices in that meal now that I am home...
If you start to have the foamies, or get the gas clenching in your belly... Walking helps. I'm sure I look charming spitting up like a 2 day old as I wander around my neighbourhood but it'll wash off the road way.
Do I want the canned ham I can see in the purred stage because the smell of ham sounds good? Sure... Did I find organic Tomato & Basil creamy soup in a box that is just as tasty? YEP! And butternut squash, and sweet potato soups too. I am just doing .5 of a cup of cottage cheese or oikos plain 0% greek yogurt beside it. The Beneprotein blends nicely into the soup too FYI - after you have heated it. The soups I went with with are in boxes with re-sealable pop open spouts or twist off caps. It makes more sense to do these then condensed soups if you are struggling to find a good one. Jus****ch the sodium. Some had way more and some less...
Breakfast today had 18.8g protein and no shake - just beneprotein for 6 g of it.
Lunch today had 17.8g protein and no shake - just beneprotein for 6 g of it.
Dinner is yet to go... And probably 2 snacks. Their sample menu sort of lists 1/3 of a protein shake as a snack... I think I am going to see what I can work up to suit as I don't want to get into that habit this early. If I get 2 10g snacks and a 19g dinner I am nearly at 80g.
This IS doable and manageable.
Oh and unsweetened applesauce with a dash of cinnamon rocks.
