Do you avoid Pasta?

I am three months post op and so far I have not had any pasta? Just wondering if any of you indulged periodically. I would love to make a small whole wheat mac and cheese? I also used to love a strata made with bread, ham, cheese, milk and eggs. I have avoided that as well.
I have eaten bread but only one slice, What do you think????

At eight months out I still can't tolerate it. I have tasted whole wheat lasagna, gluten free and rice pasta of a variety of shapes, and bowties in a soup. After one bite Giada is saying WHOA man, no more of that if you plan on keeping it down. The bowties in soup were not so bad but three was all I could have, it was in a hamburg soup and the rest went down fine, just had to eat around the bowties. Just my experience. Like everything else if I'm looking at carbs in one meal I make sure everything else I'm eating is protein. Good luck!
I think it depends on how you tolerate it and what choices you make. I tried pasta at about three or four months out. I bought Atkins low carb high protein pasta from the Low Carb Grocery. I had a craving for Mac and Cheese and figured I'd give it a shot. It tasted pretty good. I made my own using the pasta, low fat cheese and homemade sauce. When I was finished, it was still within a cup size portion and the stats and calories weren't too bad, however, it was dense and heavy and I could only eat half at a time. It satisfied the craving though.
I've also tried Dreamfields noodles as a side dish and have it as my 1/4 cup of carbs at the end of my meal. This is good because my whole family likes it, it tastes just like regular pasta so that's nice.
With both these though, I don't have them frequently, just when the craving hits because they do sometimes sit dense in my stomach, even now being 1 1/2 plus years out. I actually had to throw out the Atkins pasta box because I didn't fini**** all before it expired LOL
For the strata, I don't see why not. However I'm not familiar with stratas. I've made quiches myself (eggs, cheese, mushrooms, chives and bacon bits) and found it a delicious meal (well several meals actually).
Bread (as in slices of bread for toast or sandwiches) I didn't really get into until a year or so out for the most part, just wasn't worth the bang for the buck in the protein department at the time.
Hope these help!

Thanks Smiley, Your ideas helped. I think I will wait until I am a little further out before trying it but it is nice to know it is an option.
Since about the 3 month mark I've had whole wheat spaghetti with sauce once a month or so. I eat about 1/2 cup of noodles and lots of homemade meat sauce and grated cheese.
Now at the 2+ yrs post-op there is very little that I avoid completely. I eat pasta, potatoes, rice in limited quantities and occasionally have a wrap or a small piece of bread . It really does depend on the day. What my eating plan is for the day. For me at this stage it's pretty much everything in moderation if I want to stay within my 5 lb goal range that I'm using for maintenance.
If you really crave something and you feel certain that it's not a trigger food for you, my suggestion is to try a little bit. You will probably be pleasantly surprized that the craving will be satisfied with very little or that you no longer think that it tastes as good as you remember or are thinking. I think that I really miss something and then once I've a taste, I no longer want it or I tell myself that it's truly isn't worth the calories.
I think this is why it's such a individual journey. Some folks can not tolerate the foods and in some cases folks just need to avoid certain foods so that they don't slide back into their bad unhealthy eating habits. Only you will know whether or not it's right for you.
Keep up the good work and enjoy the ride. All the best, Muriel

Thanks Muriel, I agree with you. I think that if it is not a trigger try a little. My Trigger would be ice cream. So no way I could try that.
Hey Debra, a little off the pasta topic, but if you like ice cream, I make a green greek yogurt version with my ice cream maker ( cuisinart purchased @ Costco for about $50 on sale ). Greek yogurt, a bit of sweet & low and fresh pureed fruit. I've also made it with cocoa rather than the fruit. Of course it's not Ben & Jerry's but it satisfies any ice cream cravings I have and keeps my blood sugar at bay :).....and my kids even prefer it now to ice cream ( or so they tell me ).
