18 months out and panni referral

Has anyone been on a Tanita body composition analyzer? I got on one today at my 18 months out appt. While the results were apparently good, I have to question some of the results. It lists my ideal body weight as 120 lbs. at 5'2" and 53 years of age, I can't help think that this is ridiculous. I would be gaunt and sick looking if I weighed that little. I was 130 when I married, but I was 19 years old. Just can't imagine being that small. Clinic agreed that my body needs to weigh more.

Said that my metabolic rate was 1518 calories - that's what my body burns just to breathe and function. So why, if I eat less than that, am I maintaining my weight and not losing? Don't understand. Maybe I am in starvation mode and should eat more?

All my bloodwork was very good, so no worries there.

Referral for panni will be submitted. She suggested Dr. Nick Hynes in Hamilton, but I requested Dr. Nan for several reasons: he is very respected by people on this board, he has the best success rate for approvals from OHIP, he does fleur de lis which I think would work for me, and I have family in Toronto so I would have three places to recuperate! If anyone can comment on timelines from referral until you hear from them, would love to hear from you.

All in all, I guess I'm considered a success! Can't really ask for more than that.

Had RNY surgery July 22/11, St. Joe's Hamilton, with the awesome Dr. Scott Gmora.  Had abdominoplasty August 2/13, Scarborough, with equally awesome Dr. Michael Kreidstein.

I had my referral sent into Nadagopal in October (they had fax problems so had referral refaed x in November I called in December to make sure they finally received it. The secretary called the week before Christmas with a cancellation which I couldn't do. The appointment she gave me is for April. Another friend who had her referral the same time as me and also refaxed is still waiting for the call for an appointment.

My understanding is its a form of tummy tuck. The incision runs vertical centre down the abdomen and then hip to hip lower down. The skin is pulled into the centre and up as well. It kind of resembles an anchor. If you google fleur de lis tummy tuck you'll find a much better explanation than I could ever give. Of course, the doc is the expert and will recommend whatever procedure he feels would be best, but I just think that one would work for me. Hope it doesn't take too long to get the ball rolling. I was hoping it would be fast enough to have surgery this summer, but I think I am dreaming.

It is much better for loose skin above the belly button.  It is good for long term all over tightening.  I had it done by Dr. Nanda in November.  I started my journey to plastics last March had my first appointment in May and approval from OHIP in September. Not a fast process but well worth the weight!!! Lol

Can I ask, how did you get the surgery paid for by OHIP?  I thought OHIP was getting sticky with this.  How do you qualify for OHIP, I guess that is what I'm asking?

Thanks

Did OHIP cover it all, or did you upgrade from a panni?

I am interested to learn more about the Tanita Body Composition.  Did the Thunder Bay clinic complete that or was that something privately done?

PS if you have any more clothes needing a home let me know my pants are falling off again LOL

Hi Robin - the Tanita is in Viv's office.  I really don't know what it's all about, and they only received it day before yesterday, so it's very, very new.  As for clothes, I don't have anything that I don't wear.  I've been maintaining my weight since last spring, so my blue bag is empty.  I tried to talk Kelly into letting me do the new optifast diet program so I could jumpstart some more loss, but alas she said no!!  So I opted for having it cut off by a skilled surgeon.

LOL I love that you tried to ask about the opti program that cracked me up.  My loss has definately slowed but seems like all of a sudden nothing fits.  I go back in March for blood work again will have to check on the Tanita thing I still have a way to go to goal but i guess slow and steady wins the race.  Keep us posted on the Panni removal as I am sure I will be getting the same referal come this summer.
