Couple of questions

I don't know yet if I'm going home today but either way I need a shower. I asked my twit of a nurse today and she mumbled something about waiting until I get home, something about the weather but then I think she mumbled I could if I wanted to. So is there any reason for me not to have one here?

Second, and sorry if this is TMI but I am one of the lucky ones who got my period right after surgery. So far they have been telling me to use the lovely pads they have here but to be honest they are not exactly the nicest things (not that any are!). I'm a tampon girl and I have some so is there really any reason at this point for me not to use them?

I was allowed to wash my hair 2 days after surgery, but told to wait 3 days to have a shower provided I didn't let the water spray on my stomach.

I got my period 3 days after and used my cup. I'd say that as long as you can reach and change it on your own, use whatever product you want.

I had a shower right when I got home (2 days post-op).  I think that if you are stuck there any longer that you should go ahead and have one.  They have emergency call buttons in the showers if there are any issues.

I'd probably wait on the tampons until you get home - I found even wiping to be a bit painful at the beginning due to the bending required.   I'm not sure if I would have been able to change tampons very easily right away!

Bwahaha. One of you said no to the shower and yes to the tampons and the other said the exact opposite!

In Ottawa, the personal care worker came around to assist with the shower.  It was the morning after surgery and I was still on narcotic meds.  I would not have felt safe to shower on my own.

As to the use of tampons, if it does not hurt to bend down the insert them, it shouldn't be a problem.

I feel fine and haven't been on heavy pain meds since the day of surgery, just Tylenol. I took a peak inside the shower and there is a bench thing in there so if I need to sit I can. As long as there is no reason not to with regards to the incisions I think I'll have one after lunch.

Just do not have the spray coming directly on your incisions.  I sat on the bench and used the hand held shower unit.  The personal care worker held it for me when I shampooed and used my body wash.  Then I rinsed off and put clean hospital gowns on.  When I got back to my room I lathered on body lotion and I felt heavenly.

That's what I think I will do. I just had a different doc come in (can't remember his name but he's cute!). Basically said the same thing, I could shower but try not to spray it directly on my tape/incisions.

He also said I could go home and will lose the IV...yippy!! But I might end up staying due to the weather. Oh well, guess I will just chill here. At least I don't have to worry about figuring out food!

I showered at the hospital the day after surgery by myself, with the nurse outside the shower room. This was in Ottawa. I felt fine and kept my back to the shower nozzle.
