Testing with family doctor

I've literally just begun this process and just happen to see my family doctor today for a prescription refill. He asked how things were going and I said good but mentioned that at the orientation I was told to expect a 5-8 month wait for my first set of appointments. He then asked if he could request some of the tests needed.

I don't know if this is possible. They did mention at orientation that a scope done in the last 5 years is valid, but I wouldn't even know what tests are required. I don't dare call the clinic, I think it would just tick them off. I also don't want any results to get lost. It just seems that if its getting done at the hospital where the surgery is taking place there is less of a chance - I would hope.

Has anyone done any of their own tests? Which ones? Was the clinic OK with taking those results rather than sending you themselves?

Just asking...

I would get a sleep study done if you haven't had one already, as that is requested by most centres. Otherwise, I'd probably just wait.

Definitely the sleep study. That can take some time to get in and get completed.

I am going through Guelph and when I went for my Orientation (July 25)    they said we could call the next day to make the next set of appointments (RW,SW,RN).  We see them all on the same day and I got my appointment for Aug 26th. .  There was a sheet in the package we got  that tells us what tests are required and the family doctor can order them.  There was a STOP BANG sheet that has questions on it to see if we need a sleep test done.

I also went through Guelph, and my family doctor had all the test completed before my orientation date.  The list of all tests came in the information package that the Centre sent out with my orientation date.

Good luck,

Cindy

There was all kinds of blood work to be completed, you will need a list from your center for this and it doesn't take long to get done.  You will also need an Upper G.I. series and an abdominal ultrasound completed.  These may take a bit longer for appointments.  And like the others have said a sleep study needs to be completed.  These take a while longer to get into tho.

Good Luck!!
