6+ months post-op pain

Hello! I am 6 1/2 months post-op (just reached onederland woohoo!) and for the past 4 days have been having a stabbing pain (running lower ribcage through to back) if I eat anything more than about a 1/4 cup of food. Before last night it would only be a one time incident of pain, lasting less than a minute and gone (right after I eat). Last night, my 1 cup of beef stew landed me in the Emergency Dept. after 3 hours of pain coming and going every few minutes. They gave me some medicine orally to coat and numb my digestive tract, Tylenol and Gravol. In the end the only thing that helped was Morphine (IV). On investigation via X-Ray, EKG and blood work-up (all clear) they ruled it to be some sort of Acid Reflux. Would that be so painful? Wouldn't the coating/numbing medicine have worked in that case??!! That said, this was my local small town hospital, not the large city centre where my surgery took place. Calling there today. Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this?

Could be Gallstones. Sounds like it.

Yes, the symptoms do appear that way...however, I had my gallbladder removed in 2005. Thanks for taking the time to reply though

if the pain was on the right side it could still be a stone stuck in the biliary duct... fun isn't it.

They would have to do ultrasound or mri to see though.

Go to OWMC they may want to check for ulcers etc.

Thanks Katz. Is that something I should make some sort of appointment for or should I just show up @ Emerg?

if in pain...ER but you are like me an hour away from the Civic, so if the pain is REALLY bad go local...but the civic will have more knowledge and can always call in one of the WLS for advice. You can leave a message with the nurse practitioner at OWMC and see what her thoughts are?... it all depends on the pain, and it's location as to what kind of test they would do. Bad thing is if it is something blocking the duct they have to go in lap again because they can't go through the blind stomach to reach it with a scope.
