INITIAL BLOODWORK

Hi all,

Can you get your own physician to order blood work instead of waiting for the clinic?  I normally have a1c done, fasting, cholesterol, etc.  Is there anything specific that the clinic will order?

Thanks

T

I wouldn't think so (for OWMC, it's a "no");  I don't know what your Centre is.

They do a ton of baseline testing. I would suggest passing on your GP's lab work and having it done at your centre. Also, your centre will then have access to an ongoing history of these labs for review in the long term for treating potential deficiencies etc.

I would wait for the centre. They test for many different things and your GP will only order some things...

Be patient, your time will come ;) It just feels like it takes forever

I'd wait for the clinic as well, then you don't have to do it twice (usually they want it within a certain number of days of your appointment).  If there is anything that your Doctor usually tests you for, just mention it when they give you the form.  If it's not done, they'll add it.  A copy will go to your GP for his/her records.

.I am going through Guelph.  At orientation they gave us a list of testing that they required to be completed prior to our first set of appointments.  Bloodwork including the H Pylori test, as well as an abdominal ultrasound and Upper GI series (barium) were all done through my family doctor.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to call the clinic you are going through and see what they think.

I'm going through Humber and was sent for blood work immediately following the initial appointment with the surgeon (I didn't need a separate appointment for it and it only took about 30 minutes). I wasn't told to fast so I guess they didn't do a cholesterol test, but they took 13 vials so they must have tested for just about everything else!!!
