This week I pull the cover off the three stages of iron deficiency. Many doctors wait until their patients are anemic before they consider that they are iron deficient. The truth is by the time you are anemic your doctor has missed to opportunities to treat your iron deficiency. Read and learn and consider taking this article to your doctor for him/her to read and learn. Iron deficiency in absence of anemia is a relatively new finding attributed to the field of blood management aka as blood conservation.

Leona, I am pre-op and my bloodwork shows low iron. I am taking Palafer once a day at bedtime. Is this the best supplement out there? Would I continue with Palafer after surgery?

No palafer is an iron salt and I don't like them for everyone and particularly not rrecommended for post Bariatric Population. . .I don't give medical advice on the public forum, if you send me a private message I would be glad to speak with you privately
