Anyone do a sleep test in Ottawa recently?

I was just wondering what the time lines were like for you?  I was referred for my study in Nov 2014, got the test done in Jan 2015, and got my results last week. I'm told I'll have to go back in for a consultation with the docs and potentially get a CPAP machine, and since I hadn't heard from them yet, I called this morning to follow-up and the lady on the phone said I could wait 10 - 12 months before i'm called back in!!!  Has anyone else had this experience?  I mean if I really do have apnea, I could wait a year before getting assistance?  Looking forward to your experiences...

When you had your sleep study, did they have you sleep part of the night with a cpap unit? If so, they should have an idea of your setting. If not, ask to be put on wait list for follow up sleep test with cpap unit.

Did they give you a prescription or something with the prescribed setting for the cpap? If they did, you can go ahead to a clinic that sells the cpap units. My husband and I go to Inspiration Medic in the plaza at Carling/Kirkwood (they also have an Orleans location). They will get you set up on a 30-day trial on a cpap unit. They also monitor you remotely to see how you are adjusting/complying to cpap usage.

Or if they didn't give you anything from the sleep clinic, call Inspiration Medic (or other vendor if you prefer) for assistance. Maybe if they call looking for results, that could speed up things at the sleep clinic.

I hope this helps.

Hi Tammy

No, I just did the first sleep test, that's it.  They sent the results to my GP (who ordered it), and she told me last week that they would call me back in and recommended a machine would benefit me.  That's it.  I have no idea how long my GP has had my results for, so I have no idea how long the results have been available.  That's why I called the sleep clinic today and they told it could take months before i'm called back in.  I'm just very surprised by this length of waiting.  I could understand waiting so long for the initial assessment, but for the follow-up afterwards?  I would have thought it would be immediately.  So I guess I cannot go to the Inspiration Medi****il I receive a prescription

That's a bummer. I'd call back to ask to go on cancellation list. I know from experience that sped things up for me as I had to go back a second time to sleep with a cpap unit (unlike DH who had it all taken care of in one night...now that's efficient!).

Can you tell me which sleep clinic you went to?

My very first test was at civic and took forever to get results then follow up with cpap. This was done in 2011 when I first went to owmc and did optifast program first. Didn't work out so year later I signed get surgery and had to do another sleep test as was more then year.  2nd one was at sleep clinic on broadview and booked within month of signing surgery paperwork and then met with sleep Dr week after and givin precription for cpap.  I found ottawa civic was very slow.

That's good to know Kittykatt1329, I didn't realize that there was more than one sleep clinic in Ottawa.  If the OWMC requests another study, I think I will go that route next time.  For now I guess it's just a waiting game with the Civic.  Hopefully they'll get me through their back log before my surgery!

Yes, I think I will call back again and see if I can get more details and get onto a cancellation list.  Thanks for the advice Tammy.
