Surgery happened, 5 days post-op

Sorry for not providing a message sooner--but day 1 post op I was in a lot of pain and on hydromorphone. I was so stoned it took me 5 minutes of holding my water to take a drink. Day 2 pain was improved although kidney function was suppressed and I couldn't pee. I was given a ridiculous amount of liquids and discharged. Oh, my BP was super low... like 60/40. I was allowed to leave when they got it to 90/60.

The first couple of days, I seriously regretted what I had done. I was miserable. Now the pain is subsiding and I'm glad I went through with it. I'm still in the "resting a lot of the day" phase, but I'm also being pretty active.

tatirod!

I was waiting for an update from you and so glad you posted!  You had your surgery at TWH, right?  How did you find the care?  I am glad that the pain is subsiding and all I can say from here is sip sip sip and walk walk walk and toot toot toot.

Yes, TWH. The care was pretty good. I had one nurse who was not very friendly. She seemed to think I shouldn't get pain medication because I was on "a lot of drugs" to control an autoimmune disease. Luckily she said that in front of another nurse who shut her down. Aside from that, it was great!

The first couple days ( and maybe weeks) are a little rough....but it gets better everyday.  Its quite an adjustment and a bit of a learning curve.....but you will be just fine!

All the best to you in the healing process.  Take things slow and remember to BREATHE

So sorry you had regrets but glad you have moved past them.

Do you have a cuff? Can't remember if you told me or not. My heart rate dropped multiple times post op -- so I monitored myself closely for the first couple of weeks at home.  Rest is a great thing -- but so is getting out in the world. Wishing you well --- let's grab another coffee/tea in the weeks ahead.

Thanks. Yes, I have a cuff. My BP is steady at 120/70 and I haven't taken my antihypertensive medication since. I'm doing fine now, 120/70. Maybe I lost enough weight "on my own" this year to eliminate hypertension and hadn't realized. It's not like my family doctor checks.

Looking forward to coffee when this cold is over! I've been thinking about Balzac. :)

PS, no more regrets. I hear it's not uncommon for people to immediately freak out a little and think "did I make the right call here?" That's all it was. I think being in pain and having unstable labs made me wonder if I had made a good choice. That and... the other thing I mentioned in email... a risk I hadn't anticipated. Oh boy!

I am day 3 post op and started crying because of the pain.  The feelings you expressed are what I am going through. I have nausea but I am going to buy one of the patches. This may help
