Just wondering if anyone has taken part in the research study at TWH. It revolves around bacteria in the body before and after surgery.

I was approached by the research team to take part in the study but I am unsure if I should do it.

I wanted to know if anyone did it and how easy or hard it was to complete the process.

This study really interested me and I'd originally signed up for it but after some thought I declined. The reason being that it would add time to my appointments. If I didn't have a toddler I totally would have done it but since I do I take him with me to the hospital most visits and it's already a long day for him and my partner on those days. There's only so many trips to get a snack or books, toys, and Netflix that will appease him and it just didn't make sense to make what can be long appointments longer.

Thay said, this is hugely important research that should be of interest to us all seeing as the new thought is that rapid changes in weight and health issues like diabetes are not as much associated with the new size of the stomach but more so to the changes in our microbiota. It's incredibly fascinating and I believe that a better understanding of this topic would be beneficial in better management of our weight and health long term. So if you have time go for it!!

I don't know if this is the same one I was approached about. I think the one I was approached about was fatty liver. I was considering it... but then I got my surgery on a cancellation and it happened so quickly, I didn't have time... I was in was a whirlwind.

If you think you can manage it, do it. If it's too much for you, say no. It's that simple.

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. Choose happy.
